Aptly named, this white wine grape was created by a Mr. Müller in the Swiss area Thurgau. He had intentions of crossing Riesling and Silvaner to achieve a grape of Riesling complexity, and the early ripening of Silvaner. He didn’t quite hit the nail on the head, but the result was a white wine grape, Müller-Thurgau. It ripens so early that it has become an important varietal in the northern areas of Switzerland and England, where it benefits from the cool weather. It has also taken the names Rivaner, Johannisberg, and Rizlingszilváni, depending on what country you’re in.
Be on the lookout for Ronganator as long as we're naming grapes after ourselves. I haven't tried this piece of Swissjuice, but when I do, you'll be hearing from me.
