Waiting for the day when there is a tasting with all the wines of the world ever made, available, with a tasting threshold of unlimited wines, and with unlimited time. That day, i will quit drinking wine.

2001 Domaine de Bonserine Côte-Rôtie La Garde
(2010-02-21 00:52:11 UTC)A STEAL for a Côte-Rôtie at 19 bucks, my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised.
First of all, it showed everything Côte-Rôtie has shown me before: The intense nose of dark cherries, ginger cola, and soy sauce - and the always savory notes on the palate - and i don't mean the filler way you read the word 'savory' on Wine Spectator. I mean savory, salty, sodium! There is the unmistakeable mineral component that gives these wines their unique character, and this bargain of a wine brought exactly that. Think cranberries, and plums, dipped in sea salt. The nose probably showed more complexity than the palate, but overall this is a MUST for anyone looking for a discounted cover charge into the the Côte-Rôtie Club.
NV Les Champs Libres
(2010-02-14 01:21:30 UTC)A refreshing sparkling wine from Rhone Valley - both in taste and uniqueness. Made from Marsanne / Rousanne combo, this wine was a total surprise. A very fine carbonation combined with pear fruit that's built on a somewhat woody midpalate.
Tired of Champagne? This is the one to pick up.
Agreed with KMurph! Very cool bottle
My girlfriend brought it to my birthday dinner - and she won't say where she got it! :)
1990 Guy Bernard Côte-Rôtie
(2010-02-14 01:16:13 UTC)An amazing example of the mineral-y, perfumed, seemingly SALTY (i said it!) Cote-Rotie. The 20 years of age had brought all these characteristics to the forefront - with notes of coca-cola mixed with dirt on the nose, followed by soy + worcestershire sauce balanced by macerated strawberries on the palate. Still had good acidity to it too, and it stood up to some heavy sauces with our meal.
1980 Knoll Pfaffenberg Kabinet Riesling
(2010-02-14 01:05:59 UTC)This was a revelation and an expansion of my wine horizon. A 30 year old Kabinett Riesling, still so youthful, so together.
Nose was somewhat tight, with slight candied lemon rind, and quince.
When I tasted it, I was convinced that 30 years in the bottle effectively EXTENDS the tasting experience on the palate. Literally, all the components were coming in SLOWER than any other wine i've had, first a slightly sour, lemon-scent-cologne kind of sensation, which was then followed by a thick, dense midpalate experience where the viscous texture Slooowly smeared the pear/quince/rosepetal notes across my tongue. Again, think SLoooowoww.. And then, after what felt like minutes, the fugitive ACID, breaking through THIRTY YEARS of hibernation, exploded on my palate. Its overbearing frequencies had been stubbed down by time, but the overall balancing effect of it against the slow-matured body of the wine was relentless.Absolutely enlightening bottle of wine.
2007 Descendientes De Jose Palacios Bierzo Petalos
(2010-02-08 00:09:07 UTC)Very floral nose, with tarragon/lavender notes. Sour cherry/cranberry dominating the palette, with a firm structure.
Apart from its incredible balance, this wine just tastes unique. Its also remarkable how some of the lesser known regions can provide such high quality without eyeing your entire wallet.
2003 Fattoria Scopone Brunello Di Montalcino
(2009-12-07 05:34:14 UTC)Bright red with slight orange edges. Apart from anything else the thing that stuck with me on this wine was the POUR. The pour of it was SO SILKY and THICK feeling that I thought something was wrong.
Later that silkiness, the smooth mouthfeel was like eating liquid candy, without the sugar, if that makes sense.
This had light notes of tobacco and raspberry, with the perfect amount of oak.
For the price, this is a good beginners' Brunello.
2005 Chateau Leoville Poyferre
(2009-11-09 04:16:54 UTC)Cassis, dark fruit compote, and soy sauce on the nose. Also a bit of ink well.
Very tannic on the palate, with dark berries dancing all around.
Serious guy. Needs time, needs air, needs patience.
2008 Dashwood Pinot Noir
(2009-11-09 04:11:13 UTC)Not even close to its sister bottle (Sauvignon Blanc) from this vintage. Super light color, beets and orange soda on the nose, and strawberries with some dirt on them on the palate.
Very one dimensional, and fake fruit.
You're so right Can about the Pinot being a pale comparison in quality to the SB.
2008 Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc
(2009-11-09 04:07:42 UTC)Fresh cut grass, passion fruit on the nose.
Overwhelmingly green explosion on the palate, like a NZ Sav.Blanc on crack.
Though a bit over the top, this has some depth and complexity to it.. Amazing quality for the price, perhaps the best QPR i've seen in a Sauv.Blanc...
2005 Corvus Aeolis
(2009-11-08 16:50:40 UTC)Since this was 'group tasted' with kmurph, and a bunch of others, i'm going to copy+paste the notes from kmurph's entry. My rating reflects the combination of some of my 'thinking about it afterwards' and a tiny bit of offsetting the damage the group did with their crazy score.
sheeps butt with a giant bandaid on it , dirty fruit, sheep poop, green pepper, celery, metal, Cornell cherries. Very very interesting
