We are a couple in love....with the bold Reds. Alan seems to be more of a snob than Gayle. We love the Cabs, Super Tuscans, Carmenere, Meritage, and Spanish Temprenillos. (sometimes french)

1999 Canepa Magnificum Cab Sav
(2009-03-25 20:26:54 UTC)The highest score I have ever awarded a wine. I had this wine at a VERY NICE dinner gathering. It has taken me several days to analyze my scoring, my senses were very confused. After a lot of soul searching, I came to the realization that this wine was EXTREMELY balanced. The nose to palate characteristics were SEAMLESS. That is what through me off. I have never had a wine where the nose was married this closely to the palate. THIS CONFUSED ME AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SCORE WHILE DRINKING IT! We lost the notes that we made flavor notes on, but there is no denying the "balance" this wine provides.
We consider ourselves fortunate to have friends who consider us "wine worthy" enough to drink this fine wine that is NOT imported in to the USA..... A once in a lifetime experience!
2001 Almaviva
(2009-03-25 20:07:43 UTC)We enjoyed this wine at a dinner party. We were TOTALLY impressed with the character. We lost the notes on this wine, but remembered the score. The QPR of this wine is very high. Now, where can I buy it?????

(2009-03-16 02:39:02 UTC)First the presentation..Awesome carnival motif label and probably the best cork ever. We hated to stick a cork screw thru the little elephant. Color very dark, can not see my hand thru it.
Nose:floral and spicy, angel food cake
palate: slightly too much french oak characteristics. Jammy prunes, mild tannins, strawberry breakfast pastries
finish: long on the mid palate
2007 Sweet Bottom Vineyards French Cabernet Sauvagnon
(2009-03-02 02:50:57 UTC)Color: deep dark inky purple
Palate presents silky slightly hot, very much like a fruit roll up.
Finish is short......This wine needs another year to shine!
2004 Artadi Orobio Rioja
(2009-03-02 00:29:28 UTC)Noses of cherry jam with a little citrus component. At first taste the black pepper finish dominates and overshadows this wine. Upon further tasting "Mr. Out Of The Box" noted the nutty "like peanut skin" flavors coming out. This is a nice table wine, we enjoyed it with a juicy steak, dry and slightly unbalanced but lacking that little something ????
Not a very good QPR....its a pass
2006 Niner Merlot
(2009-02-28 14:56:55 UTC)We tasted this at Wine For The Times Wine tasting yesterday. The nose on this wine was an amazing pond behind the barnyard but did not follow through on tasting. Upfront were pomegranate and cranberry sour berry flavors (which I usually love) with a nice dry finish but seemed too sour and unbalanced. As with most of the wines we tasted tonight a little more time in the celler would greatly benefit this wine. But the price was not there for the value of buying a few to put away.
2006 Mountain View Merlot
(2009-02-28 14:45:36 UTC)This wine was highly acidic with the lemon peel thing at the mid palate. Upfront berry flavors and a nice Tobacco finish. I think this wine will be a 90+ wine in a few years maybe i'll buy a few and put them away:)
2003 Cotes du Roussillon Villages "Les Dentelles" Domaine Calvet-Thunevin
(2009-02-28 14:23:56 UTC)Color presents Inky, a lot of sediment. Unfiltered?
Nose: Barnyard near the end
Palate: Dry, well balanced Jammy, creme soda with hints of vanilla, but not overpowering, green vegetal, bell pepper.
We read on the label alcohol was 14.9%, but did not present hot.
We enjoyed it a lot, good QPR at $20. Will keep one on hand. We had to keep the score at 89, as a top end above average wine. Could not give it a 90 for high quality.
