mmmmmmm... wine you can't get in the United States that is enjoyed in the United States. Somehow it was even better this time than the first time in its original environment.. Sorrento, Italy.
As soon as the cork is popped my nose was immediately flooded with an amazingly inviting scent. seriously, i don't know if i have ever smelled anything this wonderful.. other than Carmine. . before work anyway haha ha
anyway, the wine.. not too sweet, not too dry, not too acidic.. and yet is sweet, dry and even a bit acidic. Tannin is low to non existant which makes this wine a really good pair with anything. i love any red that can be delicious with or without a hearty red meat.. not that i don't love a good prime rib now and again. it leaves a taste in my mouth oddly similar to the smell. usually i don't find a huge similarity in the smells and tastes of alot of wines.. but this one is the opposite. dried plums maybe? mmm. a bit tart even! can a red wine be tart? it can now! this practically homemade brew is absolutely revolutionizing my outlook on wine.. again. sorry jim barry there's a new guy in town! and he doesnt even have the balls to put his (or her for that matter:) name on the bottle! the humility and the taste make for a wonderful evening and if you are ever in Italy you damn well better drink some.. and mail some to me. seriously. i am here, in my room, with the empty bottle for rememberence. not even bothering to rinse it out b/c i love the smell of its remains in the bottle. oh cruel fate that i am so far removed from the possibility of gaining another bottle..

the aromas are fruity, but not just the typical apple and pear combinations.. some peach is evident along with an almost nutty scent.
the taste follows through on the nutty smell with a taste of almonds.. it is crisp, fresh, and semi-citrusish..
i like it. i dont love it. i will definitely be finishing this bottle tonight. thankfully I can do so alone. mmm.. 13.5% :)
