2004 Stone Hill Winery Norton
(2008-03-20 04:31:30 UTC)Fruity, but more of a fruit firecracker than a full fruit bomb. Well balanced, blackberries, white pepper, easy drinking, easy to enjoy. Top notch from Missouri.
2005 Bearboat Pinot Noir
(2008-03-06 00:05:58 UTC)Strong cherries, backed up by the Oak Monster (grr!). Long, somewhat bready finish. Dry and complex.
2005 Toasted Head 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-02-28 01:22:40 UTC)Weak nose with notes of Windex. Reminds me of the time I tried to make Cherry Kool-Aid with vodka instead of water. Weak, Pez-like start with a strong alcohol and tannins in the mid-palette and a quick vanish.
2004 Riverboat Red
(2008-02-21 16:17:13 UTC)Sweet wine with raspberries and cherries.
This bottle is a staple in my cellar because it's so cheap here in St. Louis. Not a great wine, but easy to drink and versatile with food. This is not a wine that you would use to show off your knowledge of wine. Rather, it's a wine that you would use to illustrate your love of great bargains and your lack of pretension when it comes to having wine around to actually drink.
2006 Chateau Ste Michelle Gewurtztraminer Columbia Valley
(2008-02-21 16:13:52 UTC)Strong grapefruit on the nose, with maybe a little bit of Taiwanese Stinky Tofu. Hits the palate like jackhammer with muddled citrus flavors, but ends up coming out like apple juice that had been in the fridge too long and started to turn into apple cider by mistake. The ladies seemed to like it though. It's cheap enough to try if you like aggressive whites, but I won't be going back.
2005 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Private Select
(2008-02-21 15:59:52 UTC)Pretty nice for an $8 bottle, but I might have got it on sale...
Definitely has a bit of a bite to it. Aggressive on the palate. Cherries and black pepper through the finish.
2005 Relax Reisling
(2008-02-21 15:47:23 UTC)Sweet and fruity, yet inoffensive.
2003 Artesa Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
(2008-02-19 16:57:13 UTC)Awesome Cab. Great with the Surf and Turf. Fruity, but not too fruity.
2004 Toasted Head Chardonnay
(2008-02-19 16:50:49 UTC)Nice and Oaky. Pretty much the only Chardonnay I can stomach, although I'd love a recommendation for another. Great with sushi and spicy food.
