2006 Funky Llama 2006 Malbec
(2007-10-26 01:32:10 UTC)This isn't bad, especially for 6 bucks, but there's something about it that I just don't like; I can't quite put my tongue on it, but an overriding flavor that I hate. I think it might be to papaya; I hate papaya, or maybe mango. Anyway, I wouldn't call it a flaw, just personal taste--I bet if you like that flavor, you'd love this one.
2004 Urban Uco Ribera Del Duero -
(2007-10-15 22:23:04 UTC)I have very much enjoyed this bottle. It's held up extremely well over several days. I find the taste not at all too sweet, but there are definitely some berries to contend with. But overall deep flavored, jam and charcoal, full of flavor. I wish I were better with my descriptors--this one is my favorite this year!
2002 Mont Destin Grenache
(2007-10-04 22:49:55 UTC)It's velvety--very good. But nothing stands out.
2004 Pegovino Grenache/Syrah
(2007-10-01 21:55:27 UTC)I really enjoyed this. Silky and light. Lots of flavors. My only complaint is that I want a bit more from it.
2001 Abrazo del Toro Reserva
(2007-09-27 23:34:18 UTC)Nothing about this wine struck me--it was not at all offensive, but it seems so mundane that I am not inclined to rate it very high. Perhaps I should be happy that it's mediocrity was unobjectional. But I somehow feel I'd rather drink an much less placating wine that has something intriguing going on.
2005 Tuscan Moon Sangiovese 2005
(2007-09-22 22:03:25 UTC)I can never find a decent cheap sangiovese--I mean DIRT cheap. This one, however, doesn't seem so bad. It's got that fresh fruitiness you expect, this kind of cut grass thing, which I don't really like, but there is a licorice undertone that very much intrigues me. I also don't like how it feels on my tongue, but there's something there, so I give it an 80. Maybe aging would be good?
2005 Tres Pinos Tierra Roja
(2007-09-21 20:00:26 UTC)I didn't think this one so bad. I definitely did not find it funky or murky, nor even young tasting. Unfortuantley I am making these notes long after finishing the bottle.
2005 Castelli Romani Rosso
(2007-09-21 19:57:41 UTC)Not a fan of this one. First of all, it's fizzy--I'm not digging that. Secondly, there just isn't that much interesting going on with the flavor; it's just there, tastes like grapes.
2005 Purple Moon Shiraz
(2007-09-13 23:37:06 UTC)I love this wine. For less than the price of a glass at a restaurant, I get a whole bottle I legitimately enjoy. The one I just opened was well-balanced; fruity, but not sweet; and just all-around enjoyable. There's no learning curve to this one. Maybe it's unsophisticated, but I prefer it to many a pricier bottle.
