2006 Peter Franus Zinfandel Napa Valley
(2009-09-19 17:40:11 UTC)I had this at a friend's house and forgot to write down all my thoughts but I do remember that all I heard was how great this wine drank and how delicious it was. I had it decanted for about an hour before we tried it. I do remember it was a bit jammy on the taste as it felt you just had a piece of toast with blackberry jam. It rounded out well throughout the night. It was an excellent definition of a high quality Zinfandel
2008 Colores Del Sol Malbec Reserva
(2009-09-19 17:28:49 UTC)Opened late night and the nose to me was very hard. All I could smell was strong alcohol. The taste was tart and a little bit of fruit came out. its a nice dark purple color.
After a night decanting, the nose opened up and defiantly smell blackberries and current (?). The tartness went away and i finally taste the fruit. The finish was a bit weak and mild tannins.
This went well with food ( brie and pita chips) so if you have the time to decant do so if you want to drink now. Very Good for the price if you have the time.I might wait half a year or so until I open the other bottle but not sure how much structure will be left then.
2005 2005 Woot Cellars Humbug
(2008-03-28 04:43:27 UTC)The long and short of it is that this wine is smooooth...Much smoother than I was anticipating, honestly. Cherries and plums on the nose. This wine was not decanted Like The alcohol is totally under control and there is a fair amount of tannins in the wine. The wine was a little lacking in flavor and dimension. Starting to get more flavors and some pepper/spicy tastes that would let me believe that after it decants for a while it will really open up and be a great wine.
This isn't a huge fruit-bomb wine that will knock your socks off, but I think that's great. It's incredibly classy and will go with a lot of foods.
2004 Robert Craig Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-03-28 04:34:28 UTC)I am not as well versed as some people are at writing reviews but here is my go
11:28 am Just opened dark, purple/ reddish hint, very strong nose, slight smoky, oaky ( not too much oak)
1st swirl Give this guy some air. It apparently loves it. The fruit noise just pops out. blackberry some cherry, there is a slight spice on the nose
1st taste a little dry with some fruit a little taken back since the noise was huge. It has been only 10 mins since I opened it. Can't wait to see 1 hour12:04 pm Second glass noise is more pronounced .. very fruity dark fruit..I want to now say black cherry. I can now smell the vanilla on the oak
2nd taste more smoother - a lot of fruit now ..middle of the tongue you can feel some tannins12:20 This noise is jammy. After a drink it was smooth, almost like velvet with little or no heat ( not that I was exspecting any). It is what I call a sit down and enjoy a movie wine. That is it is deep enough to bring intense flavor and have nosy but you won't have a mouth where you need to eat or drink something. Some really oaky cabs do this
12:40 final thoughts
This cab needs some air and time when opened to become a well mended and beautiful glass of wine. The noise is pronounced and a little jammy for me. The body turns to velvet and melds in your mouth. This is not a high tannins wine but does give a slight punch in the middle of the tongue. The final couple of sips gave almost a earthy tone but not sure what.I think I will cellar it for maybe a year more but if the time is right I will open it this year.
