I come from an area located just beside the Slovak Tokaj region, so my addiction to Tokaj is obvious. I'm software developer, outdoor enthusiast and passionate wine lover, living and working somewhere in the middle of Europe.
Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

(2010-01-10 12:09:05 UTC)Green and peppery in its characteristics, with rough tannins showing up on the palate. Definitely not a usual Alibernet.

(2009-10-19 23:44:48 UTC)Honey meets green apple meets peach in the nose. On the palate it's much more fruity, but missing some more acidity on the backend. Although I tend to dislike the wines between dry and dessert, this is pretty nice.
Good job. The current EU law does not allow anything else than Hungarian and Slovak Tokaj region to use the name. Even the Alsace and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions had to stop using "Tokay" and "Tocai".
Regarding the exploration, I've spent this weekend over at Tokaj. The 2009 vintage looks very very promising and may reach the 1996 vintage quality. There's only just 9-10 years to wait so we can see :)
Ján,
I could not agree with you more. It is a wonderful style of wine and one that is almost unknown over here (even by some people that are truly into wine). That is part of the reason I included it into the wine dinner that I linked. The best part about Tokaji, the price! Compared to Sauternes, it is cheap and in my opinion offers better overall quality. Great to meet you Ján!
I too have an addiction to Tokaji. I have not has Slovak Tokaji but I have had Hungarian.

The one described here is one of the best wines I have ever had. Amazing!
Hi Erol.
I'm glad to hear there's more of us! In my opinion, Tokaj is very under-rated around the world.
There's not a big difference between Tokajs made in Hungary and in Slovakia as it's the same area. It's just split by a border line between the two countries with about 4/5 in Hungary and 1/5 in Slovakia.

(2009-09-30 20:58:57 UTC)Nettle and green pear dominate the bouquet.
It's extremely dry on the palate, with loads of acidity, which do pretty much cover everything else.
