I am fairly new to wine.2+ years. I'm really a new world fan. And very picky. Would like some old world suggestions. Don't want to limit myself. If I am going to drink wine, I'd prefer to be blown away. I'd rather spend $50-$100 for one bottle of something exceptional than spend $10 to be disappointed 10 times.

2005 Owen Roe Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-07-17 05:35:06 UTC)Great nose. As soon as i smelled this I kne w this was for me. Some chocolate and plum and well integrated oak. Complex both on the nose and palate. Good transition to mid palate onto the finish. Would love to drink with a prime rib
2006 Patricia Green Ana Vineyard Pinot Noir
(2008-07-15 23:19:44 UTC)sour cherry juice, mini strawberries and forest floor followed by a little cigarette burn on the nose.A little bothersome. On the palate creamy jolly rancher candy assortment. Over somewhat complex but too much heat for me. Reminds me of sucking on jolly ranchers and doing a shot of absolute. Would have got a 90 w/o the heat.
2005 Phillips Hill Toulouse Pinot Noir
(2008-04-14 21:07:55 UTC)uplifting and explosive. Red and black fruit. Color dark suggesting that there may be a little syrah in it. Lengthy finish. Good QPR. Somewhat old world in its approach but new world in its flavor profile except for the vegetable nuances(being old world). A buy
2003 Gary Farrell Russian River Chardonnay
(2007-08-16 22:19:54 UTC)UHHHHRRRRR!!! Oak monster. To look past that it has a very nutty flavor and very creamy. I did enjoy it for what it was but not for me.
2005 castle rock sauvignon blanc
(2007-07-18 21:35:44 UTC)disjointed acidic off balance......yuk
2006 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
(2007-07-18 21:31:56 UTC)Brightly acidic grapefruit and kiwi come to mind. The finish kind of falls off. But the mouth feel on the mid palate maked up for it. A qpr worth seeking out.
2000 1999 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino
(2007-07-17 01:17:36 UTC)subtle licorice and whole cherry. Great mouthfeel. Really changed during the time in the decanter. I suggest opening a couple of hours before approaching.
2005 Robert Mondavi 2005 Pinot Noir
(2007-07-04 19:17:40 UTC)A very solid bottle of wine. Pinot has got very expensive....this being said a qpr worth seeking.
2005 Amon Ra Shiraz
(2007-06-24 21:16:35 UTC)This wine was very elegant. Alot of spice on the nose. I enjoyed this wine, but, it is too young too drink. Unless you plan on buying a few to cellar.......lets say 10-15 years!, I wouldn't suggest seeking this out. It needs some time. But after this time I really do see this becoming a 98-99 point wine.
2006 Mahi Sauvignon Blanc
(2007-06-19 16:52:26 UTC)tasted like biting into a whole lemon. That feeling in the back of the throught?!?!? Anyway. A must buy.
