2005 Ngatarawa Stables Late Harvest
(2009-10-17 08:46:12 UTC)Very pleasant, though unremarkable, dessert wine that I'm guessing is made of Riesling.
2005 Waimea Nelson Dry Riesling
(2009-10-17 00:33:41 UTC)Straw yellow and off-dry, honey and citrus in the mouth but very well balanced and clean with just the honey remaining at the very end. It even has that peculiar, almost rubbery Riesling taste I love to find but seldom do. A brilliant bin-end find: I've had this previously at nearly double the price. Hopefully I can find some more! [13% alc.]
2006 Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz
(2009-09-26 09:03:28 UTC)Very dark in colour; fills the mouth with thick, jammy fruit; leather; and follows with good tannin. If it were less alcoholic I'd open another bottle right now. Excellent value at the price we got it at.
2008 Villa Maria Private Bin Gewürztraminer
(2009-09-19 10:26:23 UTC)A typical gewürztraminer. Medium style, well rounded & fruity with that ending of slight bitterness to be expected from a gewürz. Excellent value for the price.
Riesling is my favourite variety: it can be made in so many interesting styles. And yet it is criminally underrated! Luckily, it seems the International Riesling Foundation has been set up to help remedy this... http://www.drinkriesling.com/
2006 Alan McCorkindale Dry Riesling
(2009-09-19 02:33:18 UTC)Very drinkable dry riesling, beeswax and honey but perhaps ever so slightly too much acid.
2008 Alan Scott Riesling
(2009-08-05 21:51:16 UTC)Off-dry. There are better Marlborough Rieslings to be had.
If you were trying to get me to sign up for Boozemonkey, it worked. But I'm not convinced why I should stick with any so-called "Wine Social Network", even Cork'd.
cause we will make it worth your time :)
You won't believe the amount of wine you'll see here. I'm always seeing things that I end up ordering or picking up and I live in the great northwoods of Wisconsin! Good site with good people. Paul
I wrote the above about a month ago in response to some proselytising activity by the owner of another website.
The reasons why I raised questions about the whole social wine thing, at least as it applies to me, I have detailed here:
