2005 Giacomo Grimaldi Dolcetto D'Alba
(2007-12-18 23:10:48 UTC)Nose: when decanting wine had a huge wash of the most obvious strawberry notes I've ever had from a wine; after about 1.5 hours had a obvious white flower- like lillies from the Christmas bouquet I had bought my wife, also some spice box, but more subtle, a very "sweet fruit" nose, Taste: again strawberry for me, dried herbs, a hint of peppery cloves in the back of the palate, long finish of red fruit and a very silky tannic grip, good acidity to pair with a meaty Italian pot-roast (tomatoes, red wine, mushrooms, parsley, and other veggies in the sauce) which was an awsome pairing
2006 Chateau Ste. Michelle Pinot Gris
(2007-11-18 17:10:34 UTC)Better served warmer, nose: exactly like lemon-orange, granny-smith apples, mid-palate just dies, lacking any recognizable flavor, but moderate acidty, short finish. Totally dominated by both a fontina and a stilton cheese but paired with a mustard sauce roast pork. Drinakable and worth the price tag.
2005 Joseph Drouhin LaForet Bourgogne Pinot Noir
(2007-11-18 17:05:43 UTC)Nose: Intially totally cherries with a hint of earth, like 3 second rule cherries plucked off the ground, really pairs well with food, very well with fontina cheese- gives a strong meaty-cheeseburger flavor, somewhat short on the finish little to no tannic grip in the mid-palate. What do you want for $12?
NV R.L. Buller & Son Premium Fine Tawny Victoria
(2007-11-17 06:22:30 UTC)Right after openning- Nose: molasses, raisins, brown sugar, Sips with very smooth heat, good grip, smooth brown sugar with spices, rosemary crackers brought out a spice component while a cranberry-stilton cheese was the perfect pairing after 3-4 hours in the glass it tasted like a blackberry, raisin, and brown sugar crumble with delicious tantalizing heat and a very long finish. Delicious. D rates 95 points
2006 Simonsig Chenin Blanc
(2007-11-13 04:49:41 UTC)pale, almost green tinged color, nose: apples, honey and apricots, very interesting, complex nose with a touch of alcohol, mid-palate lacking a little here, but a nice balance of sugared apricot with some firm acidity, long finish, the strong, interesting nose and longer finish were the highlights while somewhat lacking on the midpalate kept me from scoring higher.
2002 Luna Sangiovese
(2007-11-11 03:17:14 UTC)Initially smells entirely of alcohol, needed ~1.5 hours decanting to really open up- Nose with ripe plum and blackberry (not tart), luscious nose but also backed by alcohol.
Taste- Firm tannic grip, white pepper, dusty chocolate, and milder fruit, long finish with a heavy chocolate component. I'd say this is drinking well now, but may age another 1-2 years at most.
2005 Gabbiano Chianti Classico
(2007-11-09 03:07:12 UTC)Color: Lighter, Nose: Pencil lead and red fruit, somewhat closed, Mouth: Almost no grip, lacking mouthfeel, low tannins, some sweetness and red fruit, but lacking in midpalate or complexity. Nothing bad, nothing that great.
2005 Elderton Chardonnay No Oak
(2007-11-01 01:56:38 UTC)nose: citrus with a distinct buttered celery smell which is interesting, but completely lacking in interesting taste, on the dry side, a short finish, somewhat disappointing
