I love wine! I started drinking wine 9 years ago and learned quickly I had a great palate. I recently combined my love for wine and my passion for writing into a fun hobby and will soon have a website completely devoted to wines, wineries and wine-related occupations in California, Oregon and Washington-www.cellarmistress.com. I currently write for several sites, including Facebook's Wine Beagles (where I am a top writer) and spend my free time wine tasting and traveling to wine country. Reading wine books, wine blogs, and wine magazines keeps me up to speed and educated. I love it!

2007 Seghesio Family Vineyards 2007 Zinfandel Sonoma County
(2009-03-02 02:39:21 UTC)Last Fall I visited Seghesio Family Vineyards after meeting Peter Seghesio, the CEO and grapegrower, at a tasting. Before I visited, I only drank their wines sporadically. After meeting his Mom, Rachel Ann, cousin Ted (the winemaker) and a couple other family members and staff, I came home with a new appreciation for their wines. I remember Rachel Ann really talking up this wine, so when I got back I started buying it here. I've probably purchased at least a case since then and have to agree this wine is exceptional for being the low tier, everyday drinking Zinfandel. It's a little different than the refined and elegant Zinfandels that Ted Seghesio usually puts his trademark on. This one is a nice marriage of elegance and velvet mixed with jammy berry and spice. I still have three bottles and I'm hanging on to them for awhile. I'd like to see how they age.

NV Jacob's Creek Sparkling Rose'
(2007-12-31 01:22:43 UTC)For the price, this was really good. Upon looking at it, it has a slightly pink color, probably because there's a lot more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir in it. Nevertheless, it was nice, with a slightly yeasty smell on the nose, but upon tasting it, it bursts with red fruit and a hint of citrus. With the price of French Champagne going up up up--it's nice to know that the Australian's are producing some pleasant quaffers that are very affordable. This one is bottle fermented, methode Champenoise, as they say. So, guess what? That means, you can buy inexpensive sparkling wine with very little hangover. Happy New Year!!
2005 Peirano Estates Lodi The Other Red
(2007-11-28 03:42:10 UTC)I can't believe how good this wine was! And the thing that sucks, is the fact that I happened to get an alternate blend of this wine. Yes. The one I thought I ordered was a blend of Syrah, Petite Syrah and Cabernet. What I got was a Cabernet, Merlot with a little bit of Syrah. The guys at Wine Library were stumped. It was fantastic!
Rich, fruity, oaky with an awesome finish and I can't believe I only paid $12.99 for it! I WANT ANOTHER ONE!!! ANYONE WHO KNOWS WHERE I CAN GET MORE---PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!
2005 Cameron Hughes Lot 55 Meritage
(2007-11-07 02:59:07 UTC)At first, I smelled it and thought, "What the heck?" I couldn't tell what I was smelling. I was worried. Someone had recommended this and I was wondering what they were thinking. It has an unusual smell, but don't be fooled. A year or two longer and it would be different. It's young and needs some time. But, it is really good now when you taste it, It's thin for a Bordeaux blend but flavorful. I can really taste the Cab Franc in it.
Pour it in your glass and let it sit. The flavor develops rather quickly.
2004 2004 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Chardonnay
(2007-11-07 02:54:55 UTC)Though it wasn't my favorite, this wine seems to be somewhat consistent with it's predecessors. It has enough vanilla oak and buttery aroma to make me want to keep buying it for the inexpensiveness of it.
2003 Sebastiani Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
(2007-11-03 12:44:11 UTC)This wine was great! The moment I opened the bottle, I smelled it and the aroma was wonderful. Vanilla oak is how I would describe it. The color was a dark, rich berry color and upon tasting it, there was a lot of blackberry--lots and lots of it. The mouthfeel was rich without being too heavy. Each year, this winery makes a slightly different blend and I was surprised to hear that this vintage has some Zinfandel in it. No wonder it's so fruity! If you can still find one of these, grab it and drink it. I got mine on clearance and wish I would've bought a few more.
2005 Frei Brothers Reserve Pinot Noir
(2007-10-31 01:59:14 UTC)I didn't hear good things about this wine, but when a local store clearanced it out and it was only around $10, I decided I had nothing to lose. Guess what? I was right! This wine was so lush, velvety smooth and even had a bigger finish than most Pinot Noirs. Big cherry, berry flavor. I fell in love immediately. It's gone though. If you're lucky enough to find one--get one and drink it. You'll be amazed.

2004 2004 Simi Chardonnay
(2007-10-31 01:40:27 UTC)Unbelievable! I walked into a local Target store recently and they were clearancing out a ton of wine. One of them was this one. There was only one left so I grabbed it before anyone else could. This wine is a typical Sonoma County Chardonnay--citrusy, rich-bodied mouthfeel. It's been out on the market now for two years so it is definitely ready. A bit oaky (aged 5 months in French oak. I tried this one a year ago at the winery and passed on it, but I'm glad I drank it now. It was definitely needing some more time. A bit of toasty vanilla on the finish. A pleasant, nice wine that will pair well with chicken or seafood.
