2002 Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Merlot
(2006-07-19 14:49:25 UTC)Has a very deep color. Strong aroma of black cherry and plum. On the sweeter side of merlots but with a slight spiciness. A nice amount of fruits with a good body. A quite enjoyable wine.
3 1/2 stars
2004 Blackstone Cabernet Sauvignon
(2006-07-19 14:45:15 UTC)Heavy aroma of black cherry. Has a very young taste, especially for a cabernet. A nice balance of sweet and dry. Overall was very decent but seems like it would benefit from a couple of years of aging, as was, however, it was only average.
2001 Bodegas Fuentespina Tempranillo
(2006-07-19 14:43:04 UTC)Has a very healthy color. An aroma of strawberry and spice. A very pleasent dry mouth feel. Not terribly deep but the flavors in it are pleasantly mature.
2003 Hayman & Hill Zinfandel Reserve Selection
(2006-07-19 14:39:31 UTC)Heavy dark berries (blackberry and raspberry) in the aroma with some hints of cherry. Strong sweet fruits on the initial taste. Finishes with a slight spice and mild coffee. Good overall balance of fruit and dryness. Not a lot of deep flavors, but the ones that are there are excellent.
2003 Coastal Ridge Pinot Noir
(2006-07-19 14:35:27 UTC)3 1/2 stars
Very typical appearance of Pinot Noir, light red. Smoke in the aroma with some light berries as well as some hits of vanilla. Nice tastes of strawberry and raspberry. Overall quite fruity but with a nice spicy finish. Definatly a gentle and easy drinking wine.
2002 Vendange Pinot Noir
(2006-07-19 14:31:22 UTC)Surprisingly drinkable from Vendange. While not possessing the true qualities of Pinot Noir, I can't take away from the fact that I enjoyed drinking it.
2003 Santa Barbara Winery Pinot Noir
(2006-07-19 14:29:05 UTC)3 1/2 stars
Very nice aroma. Flavors of different kinds of cherries are very prominent. A slightly smokey edge to it. Could stand to be a bit dryer but a nice overall mouth feel. A good flavor, but not incredibly deep.
2004 Columbia Crest Gewurztraminer
(2006-07-19 14:24:19 UTC)3 1/2 stars
A very rich color, nice deep yellow with hints of green. Pineapple dominates the aroma with some light hints of orange. Very full flavor with a smooth mouth feel. Perhaps a touch too sweet. Has a very nice citrus finish. Has a lovely effervescent quality to it.
2003 Gabbiano Chianti Classico
(2006-07-19 14:20:21 UTC)Light strawberries in the aroma with a little bit of spiciness. Dry with a very full mouth feel. Good tastes of dark berries and peppers with the peppers dominating in the finish. Fairly average body.
1997 Domaine Robert Chevillon Bourgogne
(2006-07-19 14:17:27 UTC)This was served with a full course French meal and was a perfect accompianment. Well, actually it was really the star. It had a very deep color and a strong aroma of fruits, especially cherry. The initial taste was very gentle with growing body as you swallow. It possessed a very full and dry mouth feel with the fruits coming out very stronly, especially strawberry and cherry, but also some nice earthy tones as well.
