Just married, and got a wine rack for a wedding present! Now we're obligated to fill it ;-) Check our cellar, journal and shopping list. Our palates are are more inclined to prefer old world style wines, so keep that in my when browsing our reviews/ratings. Feel free to leave us comments about good wines that you've sampled--most of my shopping list comes from information found online, esp. WL Forums. Please buddy us up and recommend good wines that you've had. Cheers!

Burgundy and Northern Rhone Tasting at Chez moi this Saturday! TNs will follow. Cheers!
2005 Clos Fremur Damien Laureau Cabernet
(2007-08-19 21:32:36 UTC)Nose: Upon immediately opening, the wine had the most distinctive aroma of cranberries I've ever found with slight floral notes. Alcohol coming across slightly on the nose but not overwhelming. Over time the nose mellows with notes of leather. Pleasant nose.
Taste: Typical of wines that are dominant Cab Franc, this is slightly bitter strong tannins (but not disjointed) with slight vegetal component; most distinctive bacon fat finish that I've come across.
Overall: decent effort but I've had better Cab Francs for under $15, so I wouldn't purchase again.
2005 Frédéric Mabileau St. Nicolas de Bourgueil Les Rouillères
(2007-08-13 16:44:48 UTC)Nose: crushed raspberry and black cherry. simple but nice nose.
Taste: simple, well-balanced wine with a decent tannin integration (no bitterness) for an '05 cab franc. Slight loss of body after 24 hours.
Overall: for the $, I recommend and would buy again.
2001 Chateau Ferriere
(2007-08-11 21:28:00 UTC)Third growth Bordeaux.
Nose: Black cherry, cinnamon, brown sugar. Alcohol's heat is detectable but not overwhelming.
Taste: Black cherry, notes of earth and leather. Pretty well balanced with decent tannin integration.
Overall: recommend for Bordeaux fans; pass for non-Bordeaux fans. Won't buy again.
1999 Jean Garaudet Monthelie
(2007-08-05 23:52:51 UTC)Nose: Notes of earth, barnyard, hay/grass and red fruit.
Taste: Medium bodied (13% alcohol) earth, barnyard, great balance, long dry finish.
Overall: One of the top 3 burgundies I've had. Buy it if you can find it--there's not too many '99 burgundies around though.
2004 Kangarilla Road Zinfandel
(2007-07-30 17:29:06 UTC)Nose: stewed prunes
Taste: generous meat, leather, black licorice. Well-balanced, medium finish.
Good to pair with grilled steak or venison
2004 Chinon Les Chiens-Chiens La Noblaie
(2007-07-27 12:16:28 UTC)Color: opaque, deep purple.
Nose: dark fruit, slightest hint of straw and earth.
Taste: light- to medium-bodied red with just the right amount of fruit for someone who dislikes new world fruit bombs. This drank like a very good table wine--not much complexity to it but very well-balanced and polished. This wine would pair well with just about any food that is not too powerful/spicy.
Overall: very nice wine for the price.
Recommend.
2004 Rosenblum Zinfandel San Francisco Bay
(2007-07-23 18:14:15 UTC)Color: deep ruby-purple. Beautiful color.
Nose: fruit-forward and detectable alcohol.
Taste: Fruity (black and blueberries) new world Zin unlike other Rosenblum Zins that I've had. Medium- to full-bodied red that is well-balanced with a medium finish.
Overall: 84 b/c it is a well-balanced wine, but a little too fruity for my palate and expectations.
Cannot recommend
2005 Onix Priorat Classic
(2007-07-09 21:22:40 UTC)Nose: red berries. Hot/alcohol. Nice nose.
Taste: Unbalanced wine. Black and red berry.
Overall: bad wine on day 1, seemed to get a little better after 24 hours. Overall: Pass.
