2006 Castle Rock Pinot Noir
(2009-08-21 21:17:35 UTC)Excellent bargain pinot for cooking or even drinking with barbeque or other sweet and salty meats.
Very mellow, and while not very complex or long it finishes somewhat peppery and lightly tannic. It has less of a mouth feel than you'll find from better contenders, but for $12 this is a solid, solid wine that you can use in a sauce and have a glass to accompany the meal.
2005 Four Vines 2005 Naked Chardonnay
(2009-08-21 21:05:51 UTC)Could've used some oak to soften its rough edges. I like the pear notes, but it's the only note, so it could stand for some more complexity.
2006 Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-06-15 18:09:06 UTC)I generally don't expect much from Aussie cabs, and this one met my expectations.
Very flat, one-note, with a short but acidic finish that was slightly unpleasant. A hint of blueberry.
2006 Copain Le Printemps Rose 2006
(2007-08-24 21:20:40 UTC)With such a strong strawberry and cotton candy nose I expected this to be sweet, but it's really interesting, a nice combination of fruity and dry.
This is only my second rosé since I've started to get serious about wine, and it compares favorably to the Tavel, being slightly less complex than the wine that costs more than twice the price.
Pairs great with hot dogs, pizza, and other summer junk food.
2003 Tenuto Arceno PrimaVoce
(2007-08-16 00:26:50 UTC)Blackberries!
2004 Rosemont Shiraz Diamond Label
(2007-08-15 23:45:57 UTC)Very light jalapeno on the bouquet. Vegetal, not as fruit-forward as other examples from the region.
2003 Matua Pinot Noir
(2007-08-15 23:25:42 UTC)Blueberry bouquet, light strawberry on the finish, otherwise flat and undistinguished.
2004 Plantagenet Shiraz Western Australia Omrah
(2007-08-09 03:51:47 UTC)Fruity and explosive, with a strong black pepper bouquet and spicy, blackberry and pepper taste. This is what you'd call a "fruit bomb" but the pepper (which is typical of Aussie Shirazes) really smooths-out the fruit and makes it taste more on balance than many Napa Syrahs. Pairs really well with spicy food, like Thai or Szechwan.
Terrific value at ten to twelve semoleans.
2005 Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling
(2007-08-05 18:14:29 UTC)Apples and pears dominate the palate, although the citrus finish is nice. The transition is a little rough. Served room temperature its deficiencies are magnified.
