i have spent a good number of years drinking wine, but have only recently begun to "taste" the wines i drink. this sept. i started working at Bottleneck Wines (a wine broker in Utah) and thought it would be nice to have a running list of what i have enjoyed and what not to try again.

2005 villa giada barbera d'asti
(2007-08-29 04:00:13 UTC)Very cheery red color. Aromas of cherry, leather, herbs and those cool raspberry gummy candies with the crunchy bits on the outside. The taste is sour cherry. Nice acidity, not too much. This is much nicer than I expected. I wonder how much better it might be with some food.
2003 Schild Estate Merlot
(2007-04-16 03:07:43 UTC)Elegant garnet color. Soft nose with plum, red licorice, and subtle cherry and mushroon. Graceful on the palate with soft tannin that warms the tounge, more cherry and red licorice. finish is soft and lingering with accents of plum.
2005 Red Car Cellars BoxCar Syrah
(2007-03-07 16:48:49 UTC)Garnet/Ruby color. Aromas of raspberry, baked plum, pepper, and a meaty vanilla. Starts out smooth, then bursts into raspberry, pepper and plum. Amazing balance with nice meaty California Syrah goodness.
2004 A to Z Night and Day
(2007-02-16 14:42:02 UTC)Bright red in color. Warm aromas of cola, berry, underbrush and graphite. Rich berry flavor coats the palate with smooth tannins and slight acidity. Peppery chocolate dusted finish that lasts on & on.
Great daily drinker.
2004 Qupe Central Coast Syrah
(2007-02-16 14:23:29 UTC)Bright garnet in color. Aromas of chocolate, pepper and espresso with berry in the background. Flavors match the nose with bright acidity, understated concentration with dry, earthy tannins.
2001 Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru "VV" Cuvee Unique
(2007-02-14 13:32:51 UTC)Great rosy garnet color. Nice meaty scents mingle with mint, cherry and savory herbs. Soft on the palate at first, then layers of subtle fruit and earth and a nice herbal influence. Ever so slight pepper on the lingering finish.
2005 St. M Reisling
(2007-02-07 15:46:03 UTC)very light straw color. Peach, honey and slate aromas. Same on the palate. this is a crisp and clean reisling with nice minerality and a snap of acidity.
2005 Mano a Mano
(2007-02-07 15:38:19 UTC)Rating of 4 stars due to value price.
Aroma of cherry and toffee. More of same on palate. Sweet fruit and beautiful spice on the finish.
2005 Carro 2005 Tinto
(2007-02-07 15:32:17 UTC)Aromas of rose and a good dose of Brett. Meaty taste with cherry notes and bright acidity. spicy, savory finish.
2005 qupe Marsanne
(2007-02-07 15:25:14 UTC)Honeyed straw color. Honey explodes on the nose with hazelnut, white peach, and snap pea. Consumes the palate with juicy fruit and waxy lushness. Acidity follows so nicely integrated. Complex layered finish.
