Usually love any Spring Valley, but we had the Uriah a month ago or so, and there was something just not right, wasn't corked just funky. Have one more bottle, gonna give it some time. Have tasted every year since it came out, and have loved it everytime except the last bottle. Who knows? Would recommend all Spring Valley. Cheers and thanks for the add!

Rant: the numerical scoring of wine teeters on the absurd.

Sometimes the boss will pop something sort of rare for us to drink -like a '92 Ridge Petit Sirah. By the way, it was absolutely fantastic! If we find some old wine from the back, we will open one or more to see if it is still good. We've kissed a number of frogs that way, but we have also dusted of some real gems. So we throw away the bad stuff (typically lousy maderized stuff-yes it almost hurts to toss undrinkable white burgundies or Barolos). Sometimes we discount the somewhat old stuff that's past peak, but still pretty good (usually whites that lost vibrant fruit, or reds meant to be consumed in its youth), and sell at a regular, competitive price what has aged well. Aside from that, we really don't have any inside secrets. My boss treats us very well by encouraging us to taste and by giving us wines sometimes. The staff can buy wines from him at a very good discount. Believe me, I make good use of the deal. The people there are wonderful; it's sort of a family-like enviroment where we work hard and have fun.

Tasting, collecting and learning about wine is a fascinating hobby. I've been reading books and tasting very regularly during the past 3 years or so, but I've had an interest in wine since my family served it with nice meals when I was very young. For the past 18 months I've been working in a small liquor store with over 1,900 different wines. I'm suprised and feel fortunate to have tasted as many wines I have had over the past year and a half. I'm looking foward to making many new friends here at cork'd.
