Medium 2006 Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay

Maybe my favorite California chardonnay. My family goes through quite a bit of K-J chardonnay, and this one has the rich, slightly buttery (as the flavor of butter you get in croissant dough) and oaky flavors of an average oaked chardonnay, but only more restrained and balanced. Lovely.

Very light in body but with a bit of concentration, spicy and a bit tannic

2007 Dr. Renwick Marlborough Pinot Noir

Light and drinkable, with some depth of jammy fruit, but for the most part not concentrated enough for the flavors to have really developed, as might be suspected from such a young wine. Far from the best NZ Pinot Noir I've had.

Depth of fruit flavor brought out by the venison with which it was paired, and a lovely lactic, almost yogurty note that made this wine really stand out.

Full and very easy to drink, with an exceptionally full initial note of black pepper, which could be almost overwhelming. It finishes with a slight dryness and nice, bright cherry flavors. It really brought out the red chili flakes in homemade pasta sauce.
