2008 Lail Vineyards, "Blueprint" Sauvignon Blanc
(2010-07-21 12:29:00 UTC)Very pleasant, drinkable, light and refreshing. Vanilla notes, generally nice and dry. Not a particularly complex or interesting wine, but then again it was a really hot night when I drank it and I was incredibly thirsty.
2008 D'Arenberg "The Stump Jump" Riesling
(2010-07-02 03:09:30 UTC)An interesting and peculiar wine. Fruity and juicy (apricot) without being too sweet or heavy. The finish was striking with a strong mineral, earthy taste. A little strange at first but not unpleasant.
2009 Nederburg Lyric
(2010-06-16 03:06:37 UTC)This is pretty good stuff. Very refreshing, clean and crisp. I get pear and citrus (grapefruit) on the palate, with a lot of acid and a long pleasant finish. Good for a summer evening.
2006 Hogue Genesis Cabernet Sauvignon
(2010-05-08 03:21:11 UTC)Very nice, easy-drinking everyday wine. Fruity but not too sweet. Kind of a creamy or buttery finish, which I think I read somewhere has to do with malolactic fermentation. Some cherry notes with a little spice. A great value.
2004 Casita Mami Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon
(2010-04-30 13:15:25 UTC)Fruity but dry. Smooth, long finish. Dominant notes were dried apricot and vanilla. Very delicious. Good for drinking alone. Not too acidic, light tannins, but still fairly full-bodied.
2006 Argyle Brut
(2010-04-03 11:56:11 UTC)A nice, crisp, fruity sparkling wine. Not much mousse. Notes of pear, vanilla, cream. High alcohol. A little sweet for my taste but very pleasant.
2007 Pillar Box Reserve
(2010-04-01 03:43:56 UTC)This is the kind of wine I always feel a little stupid trying to review, since I don't really have the vocabulary for it. But I really liked it. The nose is unremarkable, with a lot of alcohol. Very deep, dark, syrupy red in appearance, with a lot of viscosity. The taste is great. Very full in the mouth. Nice balanced blend of fruity notes like sour cherry and blackberry with a hint of coffee. Long, smooth finish. Very tasty.
NV Piper Sonoma Methode Champenoise
(2010-01-03 21:30:47 UTC)This is a nice, solid sparkling wine, well balanced, dry, tasty. Definite notes of pear. A little too much mousse for me. Not complicated or particularly exciting. I found it perfect for making champagne cocktails on New Year's Eve.
2008 Alamos Malbec
(2009-11-22 15:09:08 UTC)I liked this a lot, but it was definitely a little on the acidic side for my taste. It had an interesting and subtle flavor, but with a little too much sourness in the background. I'd drink it again, though. Definitely a great value at my local grocery for $9 or $10. I didn't really get much sweetness or fruit.
2007 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz-Cabernet
(2009-10-10 15:36:31 UTC)I wasn't crazy about this one. A little too astringent for my taste. I drank it without food -- it probably would have been better if I had eaten something with it. A lot of tannin, but a nice rich finish.
