Though I've lived in Northern California's wine country for close to 20 years, I tend to favor wines from Italy. Growing up in an Italian family, wine was just a beverage on the table at every meal (actually, it sat on the floor in a jug next to Papa's feet, but you get the idea). Things have changed quite a bit since then; Italian wines have come a long way. They give French wines a real run for their money and leave California wines in the dust. And because they are the best kept secret in modern wine collecting, they are an incredible value. There are hundreds of truly exceptional Italian wines and thousands of really good ones. I’m on a quest to drink them all—or die trying.
