I love wine. I became a wine lover in, of all places, Utah (Ah the college days). Now I live in boulder and am sinking my teeth fully into the food and wine scene out here. I am currently studding to be a sommelier, I’m going the court of masters route, think what you want, some of you are player haters, and the court is a player. I just love having fun with it. I love what I do and am going to love even more when I start getting paid to do what I currently ( for the most part) pay to do. If you happen to be in the 'hood, come and see me at boulders gem Mateo.

2005 Paul Jaboulet Aine, , Crozes Hermitage, Les Jalets
(2007-07-25 04:02:06 UTC)one of the best value wines i have had in a while from Croses-Hermitage. i love the terroir in this wine. you can actualy taist the jalets. that iron rock flavor, combined with the root beer, pepper, and berry plater really bring this wine home. oh, and great mouth feel.
2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vieux Télégraphe
(2007-06-16 19:16:08 UTC)i just want to add to the description from above, what an incredable mouth feel. it's the texture of warm syrup coating your toung and mouth. it's unreal. highly recomended.
1999 Beni di Batasiolo Barolo
(2007-06-07 01:24:12 UTC)A great wine from a great vintage. Obviously Italian, with that classic funk. The color is a brown ruby color with a small clear water band and very high viscosity. As far as fruit goes, some cherry, blackberry, and bell pepper (more Italian flags going up). The wood is there, but very tight, indicating French oak. The tarragon, cinnamon dusty earth black licorice and leather are really there giving this wine its amazing character. In the mouth, it is very supple, high sugar, so high alcohol, heavy tannins high acidity, with great translation from nose to mouth feel. Very well balanced, very high quality wine. To give this wine a poor rating is a travesty, unless the bottle was corked, and you drank and rated it anyway.
1999, Beni Di Bastasiolo, Vigneto Corda della Briccolina, Serralunga d' Alba, Barolo. The varietal on every Barolo is Niebolo.
2001 Chateau Puy-Blanquet St. Emillion Grand Cru
(2007-05-20 20:18:25 UTC)Good value wine from a great vintage. I’ve had this wine so many times and I love it. I just opened a bottle and it's corked, so my review is going off memory.
For those of you who don’t like merlot, two things, stop watching movies, and start drinking this wine. This is a soft well rounded wine, driven mostly off the merlot. The cab comes in to give it structure and a little bit of tannin boost. Shows lots of fresh cherries, cassis, black pepper, and the minerality that just yells St. Emillion. It is a classic example. Yum.
Now back to the wine store, I need to see if they'll swap out this bottle.
2005 Robert Sinskey Vineyards Vin Gris of Pinot Noir Los Carneros
(2007-05-13 06:14:56 UTC)so many people like this wine for so many different reasons. some like it because of it's sinskey name, some like it because of its rarity, some love it because they have seen a movie that made them fall head over heals for anything pinot noir. i love this wine for an entirely different reason. i love this wine because i love sauv blanc. the first flavor i get is grapefruit, the second is a bit of minerality and some floral melon notes, the third is a little bit of berry, cran i think, then more grapefruit. a decent wine, no at all what i was expecting, not at all what i was hoping for (not that that is a bad thing, in this case).
i forgot about the color, kind of a supper light rose, like you pour a 1/2 oz of cran juice into a pint of water, super light.
for the price you would pay for this bottle, (roughly 20)i think you could do better. i dont know that it's worth it, but it is a fun wine to drink. if you are so lucky as to run in a circle where you see it on a friends shelf, tell him to pop it. it's worth a go if someone else is paying.
2003 The Four Graces Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
(2007-05-11 20:48:06 UTC)everything about this wine was darker than i expected. the color a dark ruby fading slightly toward the rim. the fruit, black current, raisin, some dried goods in there. some heavy vanilla notes, presumably from the oak. medium tannins, long finish, very well balanced, great wine. not your typical pinot. if you can find this wine at a reasonable price, it's a great drink.
2004 Qupe Syrah
(2007-05-11 20:33:50 UTC)heavy petrol, gives jammy notes, blueberry, a little asian spice. not very well balanced, moderate amounts of new american oak. high acidity, the nose indicates more alcohol than is actually there. all things considered, not a bad wine to just sit around and drink with the friends. way over priced
