Message Reviews Cellar Shopping List

Bio

This is the part about me where I(insert funny comment here) wow you with my knowledge and poise from years of drinking wine...only I don't do that. I am a full time student who worked his way into wine after tourning Willamette Valley last summer. I worked as a wine manager of a small store in a tourist town last summer and quickly made friends with anyone who would listen to me as I babbled away about my time in wine country. My ease of conversation with people led my current boss to seek me out to be the wine director of Havana in Bar Harbor. Please feel free to look us up, and if you stop in for dinner ask for me and I'll see if I can't find something fun to share from my collection "not on the list". Wine....like knowledge, was meant to be shared. I also want to add that my wine cellar hasn't been updated in awhile....so there are bottles listed that I've already drank...and many that aren't even listed here.

Basic...leather, red & black fruit with an earthiness to it that was pretty linear and basic. I wouldn't go after more personally....

This was tasted at an off-line in Napa in December 2007.

God don't I hate the idea of using points on a wine...but this one deserves it. My first personal 100 point (perfect) wine. I opened this at a small gathering of about 12 industry people and we were all amazed by this wine. It was something almost akin to an out of body experience. Scents of Orange blossom, honeycomb, and figs filled the room as I poured this wine around for all to enjoy. In the mouth it was like liquid sex. There are no descriptors to cover a wine like this...I am typing my notes long after having had this actual experience because it is a memory that i simply can not forget.

I would love to try the Close des Papes....but it doesn't come into my state...maybe while I am out in Cali. Time will tell.

Great notes on the Beaucastel, have you tried Clos de Papes CDP?

This was a nice dry riesling...it has been awhile since I tasted it. So I appologize that there are no specific notes. However there is one comment. This was kind of pricy for the QPR. If you are not a "Die Hard" German Riesling then you may want to give this one a pass....

This wine is long past its peak for being from 2001 or....it was never really worth money in the first place. The acidity is off balance and a little high with little fruit to balance it out....

A fun wine to smell with scents of fresh apple pie, nectarine, and a light almost medicine quality at the end which is more intriguing than disgusting. Sleek with an almost delicate balance to this wine...it is a fun white for the money...but there are far better wines out there for only a few dollars more.

On the nose there is a buttered pear scent that crawls into your very fiber it is so intense. I had to actually smell this wine a second time to get it because the first time it was sooo intense that I simply couldn't register it. This smells a little like a high end California Chardonnay....which is not what I would have expected from Verdejo. In the mouth flavors of lemon, lime, and almonds collide...which normally I would think that I would not enjoy this....but I'm lovin' it. A little later after the wine had time to open up there was a prominent flavor of bananna's and mango present. This wine is an awsome alternative to people who drink only Chardonnay and I think it will go great with the pork chops I will be grilling up for dinner later on this evening. I very solid effort that was well worth the price point.

I wish I kept tasting notes during my travels out to Willamette Valley, but I didn't. Here is what I can say...I was broke and told myself I would only buy one bottle a day while out there. This was my 3rd bottle of the day...and I am still bummed that I only bought one. My score may very well be higher when I open this bottle...but that will be a ways down the road as this is one of those rare bottles that I am saving for the right time & place with the right person to share it with.
