NV Yellow Tail Chardonnay

The nose is a bit rank and ultimately boring. Very unbalanced on the mouth. Unnatural oak quality that doesn't leave a good aftertaste. This wine, if you can call it that, is awful. I have had better wine come from a box.

2006 Kermit Lynch Cotes Du Rhone

This wine begins with a very vegetal nose: green pepper, basil, with hints of black pepper, cherry and currant. Very big aromas that will become more balanced and nuanced over time. The mouth packs an immediate punch with heavy vegetal characteristics sprinkled with black pepper. This wine is huge on the palate but needs some time in bottle to work out the massive amount of acidity that it carries: maybe a year or two. The finish is a bit disjointed, almost like the acid is static electricity. It shoots everywhere and is not focused. I think more time will tame the acid a bit and deliver a wine that is really impressive for the price.

Fruit and nuts are abundant in the glass upon first sniff. As the wine opens up it begins to release scents of citrus fruit, mango and a slight hint of vanilla that become more profound over time. The mouth has a creamy, butter sensation that coats the palate and unfortunately becomes a barrier for other flavors. In my opinion, this wine is over oaked. There is a mask of flavor that this wine is wearing, but I am not quite sure why. I think this would be an amazing wine if oaked for half the time, or not at all. I can sense other flavors that want to come through and exhibit themselves but can't. For the money, I can find many other wines with greater qualities.

2001 Hautes Terres de Comberousse Rocalhan

Color is amber, almost honey-like. The nose is a complex medley of honey, mead, and cinnamon sticks infused with a strong herbaceous quality. Over time hints of coffee come through. The mouth feels saturated with flavors, but not thick or viscous. At first the wine is smeared with flavors of strong herbs, savory, oregano, and then moves into vanilla tones with hints of nuts and oil. This wine is often times thought to be oxidized due to its color and strong, different aroma. Don't let this fool you. This wine is a remarkable find and goes very well with food: I had it with pork chops, green beans and rice and it was delightful!

Pleasant mix of gamey and red fruit notes behind a veil of smoke. Interesting wine, not too complex but tasty and leaving you wanting more. Great food wine.

2004 Domaine Jacques Puffeney Arbois Pinot Noir

Extremely light colored pinot noir resembling a brick hue. The aroma takes on a life of its own: imagine a massive slab of raw red meat smeared with anise seeds, then stack on a few Brach's hard candy, add some berries and top it off with Bouquet Garni and a splash of soy sauce. Quite an extraordinary nose for such a young wine. The taste is exquisite, start by mixing the strong red meat notes with not quite ripe cherries. The mid-palate of this wine sings with a great vigor and takes its time finishing! Be warned: if you have a problem with highly acidic wines or what some people call "old-world wine" than this is not for you. This wine's acidity is so great it almost hurts. Here is a wine that will last the ages, I mean decades. I think you could have this wine in 30 years and still say the acid is too high.

Wow!!! This is an amazing wine. Huge aromas of spice, game, berry, and herbs leap from the glass trying to escape. The mouth is very complex, velvety, rich and incredibly long lasting. You can almost taste the red meat you should be having with this wine. This wine could stand to have another decade or two in the bottle and it would still be evolving! Exceptional!

This is an exceptional wine. Very closed at the moment this will expand over decades to reveal a complex expression of the terroir of Paul Jeune's holdings. Aromas of red fruit, berries, fresh game, and mineral. The mouth is full of zingy acid and mineral treble notes that line a fruity driven bass that will play much louder in years to come. This is a great wine that can stand a great test of time.

Plum, Blackerry, and smoke aromas fill the glass immediately. One can tell right off the bat this is going to be a large wine. This is a very thick wine on the palate yet exceptionally balanced. This is a steal for the price. Very complex and thought provoking but not over the top.

Floral and honey aroma slightly shut off. Mouth is full of an herbal/nutty aspect with a huge acidic zing to it. Right now a bit off balance but will correct itself in time. Hints if thyme, almond, and flowers.
