2005 Fox Run Dry Riesling
(2006-11-03 08:47:38 UTC)Overall, a quality effort. A truly dry riesling (unlike many from the region). Good balance of fruit and acid.
1927 Alvear Pedro Ximenez
(2006-10-30 09:00:58 UTC)Stunning solera Montilla. Similar to a Solera Sherry. Instensely sweet and smooth. Tastes like raisin syrup. This solera was began in 1927.
2002 Ch. Souverain Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
(2006-10-18 16:57:52 UTC)If I had blind tasted this, I might have guessed an Aussie Shiraz instead of a CA cab. Very big, dark fruit flavors, very smooth, light tannins (particularly for a young wine).
Very drinkable, but a medium weight wine, not a "serious" wine.
2003 Rosemount Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon merlot petit verdot
(2006-10-17 09:39:48 UTC)This is a great wine for the price. For less than ten bucks you get a well balanced wine with plenty of fruit, but sufficient complexity to make it much more than a simple fruit bomb. Worth the price and more.
2004 Calvet Thunevin Cuvee Constance 2004
(2006-10-17 09:32:46 UTC)Thin and acidic. Not much to recommend it.
2003 Alexander Valley Vineyards Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
(2006-10-17 09:31:26 UTC)A very decent cabernet for the price. California cabs in the $20 range tend to be very disappointing, but this delivered for the price.
2001 Beaulieu Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
(2006-10-08 15:48:32 UTC)This bottle may have been abit corked. Not terribly fruity on the nose, but a strong cork smell. Not appealing, but the flavor of the wine was fine. Extremely well balanced and smooth. Not overly fruity, but a balance of fruit and tannins.
1999 Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
(2006-10-05 13:29:00 UTC)Right off the bat the wine was unimpressive. For $100 you expect a top of the line Napa cab to knock you down with rich aromas of complex fruit and earth. Chocolate, cassis, black currant, leather, tobacco and spice. This wine barely even smelled like wine, much less any of those other things.
Even after letting it breathe for over an hour, there was really nothing much to it. This wine had no fruit to speak of and the tannins, far from being smooth, were bitter and acidic. Blech!
I would have been disappointed if this had been a $10 bottle of wine, much less a $100 bottle.
2004 Razon Valsacro
(2006-10-05 13:16:15 UTC)Gary Vaynerchuk highly recommends this wine, but I was disappointed. It seemed a bit flat and bitter to me, bitter partiuclarly on the midpalate, which was awkward. Not a great effort in my opinion. I still have two more bottles, so we'll see if they're any better.
2004 covey run riesling
(2006-10-04 11:54:17 UTC)This is a slightly sweet riesling, with a light milky smoothness. It has a mild nose, with a touch of sour apple. Not very acid. That along with the sweetness makes this a very easy to drink wine. This wine also has a touch of frizzante (fizz) that is quite nice. If you haven't experienced frizzante before, this is worth trying just for the cheap thrill. If you like big, complex, dry wines, you probably won't like this, but for the price, this is a surprizingly good effort. Actually quite nice with Indian food.
