2008 Val Do Sosego
(2010-01-18 00:22:42 UTC)Minerals, acidity, and a hint of apples at the finish. A great palate cleanser with something fatty and/or spicy. We had it with sausage and grits, and it was perfect. There was a very small hint of effervescence, too.
2005 Chateau Saint-Andre Corbin Bordeaux
(2009-03-07 12:56:02 UTC)This is one of the most well-balanced wines I've tasted in a while. Lush smoke and cherries are balanced with clean tannins.
2005 Chateau Andrea Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-11-24 01:37:59 UTC)lacking that robustness that new world cab's tend to have...meh. i'd rather have an aussie cab at a slightly lower price.
2006 Pont Du Rhone Cotes du Rhone
(2008-10-26 20:46:30 UTC)Just enough Syrah to make it a bit zippy, but balanced by a floral finish. Had it with a pork roast and it didn't overpower.
2005 Trellis 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
(2008-07-06 23:48:16 UTC)Good table wine for a weeknight meal. We actually had ours with grilled pork chops (yeah, I know), and it was a nice pairing. This is a very mellow cab. Don't expect it to punch you in the face like others.
2006 Siema Pinot Grigio
(2008-07-06 23:43:00 UTC)Fun and summery, this pinot grigio is great for a hot evening outside. It actually tasted a little better once it had some time outside our fridge, so I'd recommend uncorking about 10 minutes before serving. Very citrusy, with a hint of muskmelon -- but not too sweet. This was a great deal from Wegman's.
2007 Cremant de Limoux J. Laurens Brut
(2008-07-06 23:37:43 UTC)A well-balanced brut that's easy on the wallet. I served this at New Year's and keep extra in the fridge for the unexpected guest, and it's always a hit. This is a yeasty but approachable sparkling wine from southern France.
2006 Bogle Vineyards Petite Sirah
(2008-04-08 22:12:16 UTC)Beautiful color! I've never had a "petite sirah" before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Straightforward berry aroma showed up the same way in the flavor. Make sure to decant a few minutes, and the tannins will calm down and mesh well with the spicy, somewhat yeasty finish. Nice deal.
2005 Shotfire Ridge Barossa Cuvee
(2008-03-29 18:28:36 UTC)The nose was straight up cherry and very inviting, along with the beautiful claret color. The wine was a lot more subtle than I expected of a New World wine...very mellow spices and leather. Finish was a bit flat, but overall a very understated Aussie wine.
2004 Simi Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
(2008-02-21 02:29:54 UTC)Very musty, relaxed cab. While the nose is quite cherry-oriented, the flavor includes well-balanced tannins with a sweet tobacco. Had this with a perfectly cooked chuck roast, and it was just right!
