2007 Perrin & Fils Cotes du Rhone "Reserve"
(2010-03-21 18:24:06 UTC)Though scored more highly by respected reviewers than past vintages, I found this to be very similar to them. This has a nice, complex red-fruit and pepper dominated nose. The initial taste is very bright, which transitions to a midpalate dominated by black fruit. There's a little bitterness on the fairly long, but not delicious finish.

(2010-02-22 22:08:55 UTC)Whew - no wonder it's the fastest selling $7 CdR around. $13 alc. A 3/4 ruby in the glass. Upon opening there is a gamey, smokiness to this. Let it sit and swirl and it really opens up. Blueberry, dark currant, cassis, spice, chocolate, a fundamental earthiness and herbs on the nose. On the palate there is a french toast note with mushroom, white pepper, dark cherry and blueberry. The tannins are gripping and the acidity brilliant. The earthiness and mushrooms are pulled to the end and the white pepper and acidity really give the end a pop. This needs lamb and hearty beef dishes. Very well done and will fill out some, drink through 2012. Paul

(2010-02-10 04:22:58 UTC)A bright red-purple. Light, smooth, and balanced. Starts soft and bumps it up a notch during a longish finish. Gains some power/complexity while breathing.

(2009-11-16 17:31:53 UTC)The color is a rich ruby red, brilliant and clear. Surprisingly even from end to end, as well.
On the nose are some very rich ripe red cherry notes. Not the sour cherry I’ve noticed lately in some of the Spanish wines I’ve had, but very ripe. Sharp notes of granny smith apples and a softness of grass are also there. All in all, extremely inviting.
The wine is dry, with a fairly light body but a long finish that lingers (very much a good thing). Notes of red fruit, plums, and pomegranate abound and dance around. There is a clean fruit-forwardness to the wine that is in no way like the big, bold, over-the-top California wines. Much more refined, tighter, but still with plenty of fruit for people who love that in their wine.

(2009-11-01 07:14:58 UTC)two things are going for this wine: one it's under ten dollars, and two, it absolutely murders in this price range. you don't even have to mention it's pedigree.
gorgeous purple color, huge amount of black cherry, blackberry, and a nice spicy finish. you'll be hard pressed to find a better wine this cheap.

(2009-10-19 02:41:42 UTC)Comes off as being bold but then is Surprisingly light tasting. A little hint of pepper and oak, maybe some peach. Not a bad wine for the price.
Needs a little more time in the barrel me thinks.
