2008 Wrongo Dongo Monastrell
(2010-08-07 23:32:17 UTC)Spicy and peppery nose with some medicine scents. Medium to full bodied. Definitely pepper flavors along with fruit on the front end. A little hot, but that doesn't bother me. Had this with burgers and it was great. This is a great QPR wine.

(2010-08-02 04:38:44 UTC)Quite pleasant nose with red fruit, pepper, spicyness, cough syrup element, a little heat which isn't surprising considering it's 15%, but not overpowering. In the mouth it has some weight to it, distinct medicinal component that is really interesting along with some delicious fruit, finishes fairly long with some spice, pepper fade. Alcohol is not noticeable in the mouth, maybe some very gentle heat. At the $6 I paid for this it is a ridiculous deal.

(2010-07-24 21:13:16 UTC)Distinctly summery, my friend and I agreed we would like to take this on a picnic. Cherry cough drops on the nose, but on the palate it avoids being too candy-fied with nice acidity, pleasant tannins, and a hint of smoke on the great lingering finish. It also has an impressively defined beginning, middle, and end for something under $10. My favourite red at a Jorge Ordonez tasting against 5 others that all cost around $5 more.

Paid 7.99$. Skip this and upgrade to the standard Juan Gil bottling. Great new label design, though.

(2010-02-28 04:27:27 UTC)On the nose it kind of pings around from Robitussin to earth & black pepper to blueberry-scented magic marker. On the palate it’s smooth-textured with dried cherry and blackberry fruit, a mineral component that makes me think of a wharf and a bit of a chocolate note at the end. Like many other reviewers, I get the black tea astringency. It’s kinda of like an unsweetened blackberry-flavored tea.
I don’t know that I’m really digging this one. If you’re looking for super-cheap bottles that aren’t bad, give this one a try. But for me, I’d rather drink something else.

(2009-11-22 03:11:38 UTC)Appearance: Ruby red.
Aroma: Smells like an intensely reduced cherry puree, with a bit of flowers and oyster brine mixed in.
Flavor: Extremely lush and silky at first but very spicy and peppery in the back of my mouth. The initial flavors are overpowered by that strong finish, but there are some initial fruit flavors. As this opens up it balances out somewhat.
Overall: This has a surprising amount of punch for such a cheap wine, and its very young so it may balance out more with some age.
