Joel Gott 2005 Zinfandel
(over 2 years ago)I don't drink Zinfandels very often, but this was a full, smooth wine. An excellent value.

(about 1 year ago)Was disapointed with this after some of the other reviews I read online. I was expecting more berry, and only got black licorice...not my favorite.

(about 1 year ago)Nose has some blackberry and earthy tones. Taste was sort of light for a zin, not very full. Finish was rather tame as well. I would probably say this is 2.5 stars.

(about 1 year ago)The nose is full of clove and a touch of alcohol towards the end. Like a fruity, mildly spicy chai. Less spirity than I'd expect for a 13.9% wine. Cherry, a little bit of plum, and a little blueberry are present in the taste. The finish is amazingly long, though there is an initial, brief watery moment. Overall, a great wine.

(about 1 year ago)Fruity and smooth with a slight toffee aftertaste... thumbs-up and will try again.

(11 days ago)I really liked the Joel Gott 2004 Zin, but was disappointed with the 2005 when I first tried it. I just tried it a year latter and I believe it's better now than it was a year ago. Blackberry smell with a little spice, but not much. A mild fruity cola smell as well. Nice color still very purple. Taste is a little candy and some spice with a long but thin alcoholic finish. This is a solid wine for $15. Better now than it was a year ago for sure (a year ago I would have rated it 86-87). I hear the 2006 is better so I'll get a couple bottles and see for myself. I'm still a Joel Gott fan, it's a reliable "go-to" wine that's prices accordingly. The fact that a little age does it well shows it's a thoughtfully constructed wine.
