The Mixed Blacks is primarily a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Grenache. It is made from grapes planted in 1999, an experiment of Bucklin's to emulate the field blends of other ancient vineyards. These vines are about 115 years younger and are irrigated. The wine has amazing black cherry fruit intensity with lots of “Old Hill” spice, including nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Its supple tannins finish with a lingering richness and viscosity that make the wine easy to savor by itself. This wine is a great value.

(about 1 year ago)A fantastic wine, especially at this price point. Buy it if you see it. I am having a hard time finding more locally! Excellent burst of berries throughout. Not overly oaky. Relies on grapes not wood to achieve its sublime wonder.
