2001 Perrin Reserve Cotes du Rhone

The color of this wine is a deep hue of maroon with a hint of brown. This wine smells musty, dank, old, and woody with a slight hint of fruit and alcohol. Tasting the wine showed me that this was, indeed, a rather dry one. It coated my mouth with a heavy fluffy blanket which is still there. There is a heat that starts of gradually, but lingers a little too long on the finish. There are some slight spicy notes that show with the heat of the alcohol and I can definitely taste a bit of licorice. The wine is pretty tasty, but the weight of the alcohol overpowers it just a bit too much for my palette. Not a bad wine, just not one I'd be crazy about having again.

Year after year the Perrin clan gives us a good CdR. Some years they give us great ones. I like the 1998's and 2001's. Black fruits, spice/pepper. Goes well with grilled beef, lamb or pork or any dish that has garlic in it.
