Hecula 2004 Monastrell
(about 1 year ago)Nose was tight. Good, dark, fruity, black current balanced by oak (monster) and tannins on the palette, showing hints of vanilla and chocolate. This was a tough wine to describe, with the nose being so tight it made it difficult to identity the flavour profile but it was nice, round, and smooth with good balance on the palette. Perhaps also due to this balance nothing really stood out as the dominant flavour profile or as being particularly exceptional. I don't have enough experience with Monastrell/Mourvedre to compare it with its peers. Either way, good wine, good value.
