Wrongo Dongo 2004
(over 2 years ago)I found this eclectic brand of monastrell grapes from the Jumilla region of Spain at Cost Plus World Market, a great place to buy affordable wines. It had an 89-point Wine Spectator rating, and was priced at nine measely bucks, so I couldn't pass it up. It was just as good as I hoped it would be, with black fruit and spice with smooth tannins, just the way I like my reds.

(over 2 years ago)I must admit I bought this solely on the label and name. I was very pleased with the wine, especially at the price. We found this bottle at Wild Oats, I think it was around 9 bucks. I served this with a mushroom polenta dish and it worked very well with the dish. If you are looking for an affordable spanish red, I would definitely recommend this wine.

(over 2 years ago)Spicy and a bit tannany... but tasty and a bit fruity. A deal at $8.99.

(about 1 year ago)Great value - wonderful table red. Strong chocolate and berry notes. Yummy.

(about 1 year ago)Decanted this for 4 hours first...not at all impressed, even if QPR is considered. Mine was very "hot" on the nose (burned to sniff deeply), and this carried though to the palate. The wine was interesting, not a fruit bomb from my perspective though....I got more earth/dirt tones, little fruit, with alcohol the predominant flavor. I did not try it with food, so I'd be curious about how others have had it. WS and RP both gave this high ratings, but I don't see what the big deal is. I wonder if the fruit has faded already? I think that WS said that it would be best drunk within the year to get to the fruit.

(about 1 year ago)Trish, I'm not sure why you'd decant this for 4 hours...I'm guessing that's why you didn't find much fruit. When you're talking about a $10, relatively young wine, it's best to open it up and drink right away. I think this wine is a very good value...
