Medium purple color (so fairly dark), and fairly clear, but with some sediment. The packaging is quite nice, with a creative label, and color matched artificial cork with printed logo on the side. The nose is very plump and forward, with blue fruits but also vegetal and leather notes. The flavor is Old World, with fruit restrained by the vegetal flavors, but it's pretty intense. I had a hard time picking out individual flavors in this uncomplicated and bold wine. The tannins were moderate and outweighed by the acidity. The finish was surprisingly long, with some serious zing - from the acidity or alcohol I don't know. Overall, a great value if this is your type of wine, but it's not my personal taste. My relatively low score is due to my palate's preferences (more red fruit, less monolithic, more tannin), but there is a lot to like about this wine - it offers an interesting experience and I recommend people try it at least once. $7 isn't too much to wager on an experiment!

This Spanish violet went down smooth, though bodied. Tannins and sweetness in an adequate balance.
