R.P. 98 points #163 "The profound 2005 Shiraz Amon Ra is fashioned from a dry grown, 100- to 110 year-old vineyard, and spends 14 months in a combination of 100% new French and American barrels as well as 300-liter hogsheads. A saturated purple color is followed by scents of creme de cassis, incense, licorice, black raspberries, graphite, and sweet wood. It unfolds beautifully on the palate to reveal terrific richness, full-bodied power, great definition, and lovely elegance. This exquisite Shiraz is still young, but it possesses a degree of accessibility. It should age for two decades. It is a superb example of cutting edge winemaking being utilized on ancient Shiraz vines in the Barossa."

Amon Ra 2005 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)The best Shiraz I have ever had in my entire life, ever. I honestly re-thought Aussie Shiraz after tasting this bottle of wine. While I am a starving student, I'm actually considering blowing nearly a week's worth of food and beer money on one bottle to cellar for 5+ years. Robert Parker moved up a few notches in my book when he gave this a 98. His review does a better job than I could ever do: "The profound 2005 Shiraz Amon Ra is fashioned from a dry grown, 100- to 110 year-old vineyard, and spends 14 months in a combination of 100% new French and American barrels as well as 300-liter hogsheads. Amon Ra 2005 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)This wine was very elegant. Alot of spice on the nose. I enjoyed this wine, but, it is too young too drink. Unless you plan on buying a few to cellar.......lets say 10-15 years!, I wouldn't suggest seeking this out. It needs some time. But after this time I really do see this becoming a 98-99 point wine.
Amon Ra 2005 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)this is one of my favorites right now. i think it drinks nicely for such a huge wine, the 2004 is drinking amazingly well now, not as brash as the 2005 is. love the blackberry liquer and blueberry aspects along with the spice. this wine blows me away. can't wait to drink this in 10 years!

Amon Ra 2005 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)My wine merchant tells me that he's got a Shiraz that will make me change my religion (which was, at the time, cab sauv). This shiraz did it. Everything about this wine was perfect.
Amon Ra 2005 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)Absolutely unbelievable. Easily the best shiraz I've ever had. Amazingly powerful fruit that explodes without ever being cloying. Opulent mouth feel and an interminable finish. I need to try another bottle or two before I finish my notes :)
