2002 Willm Kirchberg de Barr Gewurztraminer
(over 2 years ago)Med golden color. Nose of honeyed litchee and florals, with wet rock creeping in with air. Taste: surprising and delightful. Full, rounded, almost off-dry. With air on the palate, terroir (mineral) flavors dominate over the fruit, without, fruit and teroir in a fine balance for an enjoyable wine. Litchee is subdued, and acidity seems low. Finish of slightly bitter fruit, much like a good pinot gris. This wine is excellent, but flirts with true greatness, lacking only a bit more backbone.
