Dry red wine of Molise. 13.5% alcohol. "Indigenous grape varietals are playing more important roles in the world's wines (despite the falsehoods promoted in the disingenuous movie, Mondovino), and the 2003 Aglianico Contado IGT is fashioned from 100% Aglianico that has been reclaimed by Riccardo Cotarella. It is a stunning Italian red. Notes of crushed rocks, acacia flowers, almond paste, blackberries, and currants jump from the glass of this opaque ruby/purple-colored offering. Boasting fabulous intensity, medium to full body, beautiful purity, and nicely integrated acidity, wood, and tannin, it was aged in both large neutral oak ovals and smaller barrels. This wine represents incredible value for the money."

(about 1 year ago)Huge QPR! Smooth dry red - raspberry, blackberry, currant. A little strawberry on the nose. Hints of earth flavors. If you like Italian dry red wine, this is a winner.

(about 1 year ago)Dark berry and cherry aromas, with a nice complement of toasty cedar and wildflowers, and hints of moss; well balanced acidic and tannic structure; blueberry, blackberry, and sour cherry flavors; mouthfeel is juicy and round at first, but quickly drawn tight on the tongue by the lively acidity; always left with a hint of bitter minerality on the medium finish. A rustic beauty!

(about 1 year ago)I agree with the prior tasting notes but found the wine slightly off balance due to an off-putting bitter tannin component - this reduced somewhat with time but was still there after two days. I would still recommend the wine, it has a lot of stuffing for a wine of this price point.

(about 1 year ago)Deep red garnet color. Rich Italian nose of cherry fruit, smoke, violets, cedar. Smells complex. Med body with thin legs. Taste is cherry, roasted meat, smoke and cedar. Good acidity and med long cedar finish. Very nice. Perfect with chicken Veracruz (tomatoes and olives)

(about 1 year ago)Popped and poured this one at a barbecue. Dark color, full-bodied, spicy on the finish. Good with the food we were having. Would benefit from decanting.

(8 months ago)Decanting for several hours helped this wine. Upon opening, it was quite sharp and oak-ey with STRONG tobacco on the nose. After a few hours, it settled into the nice dry Italian it was supposed to be. Still nothing to write home about.
