Osoyoos Larose 2001 Le Grand Vin

It's 2006 and finally time to crack open the 2001 Osoyoos Larose! Deep warm brown color with brown edges. Heavy band-aid on the nose with mild molasses overtones. Surprisingly appealing, though. On the palette, bing cherries and molasses, I think. A little strong up front, but very smooth finish. Will mellow nicely with a bit more aging. I totally dig it, though. I have the inside scoop on Pascal, the wine maker. He seriously geeks out on this wine. The pickers are required to wear clean red shirts when they hand pick into their Sterling silver buckets. A true artists that I deeply respect, and find totally hilarious. I will forever be a lover of his work.

This wine was very popular at a recent wine party I attended. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc, it was dark in color with aromas of barnyard and smoke (I would also agree with the band aid description fo the previous reviewer) and subtle flavors of tart red fruits and raspberries. The wine has high acidity and is pretty well balanced, though the tannins are strong. Le Grand Vin would benefit from some aging in the bottle and decanting when opened. It would be at its best with a nice steak, but don't open it if you are looking for an easy drinking fruit bomb.
