d'Arenberg The Hermit Crab
(about 1 year ago)Pale in color. Flavor is surprisingly complex. Great nose that lacks classic Viognier floral impact, but instead is reminiscent of a clean breeze off the ocean. Mouthfeel is full, lush, and slightly oily, with peach, pear, and wet rock right up front. The midpalate brings subtle flint and some sour lime. None of the flavors are loud or obvious, though; this wine is intriguing in how it delivers a strong message so quietly. Made me want to keep taking another sip to experience the subtle flavor profile again and again. Very interesting and a little bit addicting!

(about 1 year ago)I tasted this at a local restaurant, it was pretty interesting. Good florals but also a nice rich honey note too. On the palate, a bit of acidity but mainly lots of sweet fruits. I'd recommend it if you enjoy slightly acidic fruit driven whites.

(about 1 year ago)Very big nose, and very bold on the pallet throwing all sorts of fruit flavours around. The strength of the wine will turn some off immediately. I was intrigued and enjoyed the uniqueness of it but I found it too disjointed to recommend. It’s worth seeking out if you want to exercise your pallet and try something new but in the end I wasn't able to truly enjoy this wine. Maybe I will give it another try some other time.

(about 1 year ago)Full taste(complex) and a smooth finish(no heat). A great food wine and a wine that stands well by itself. I loved it.

(about 1 year ago)I absolutely loved this wine. I think suzanna945’s tasting notes sum it up very nicely, so I will just say that while it’s definitely intense (there is an awful lot of stuff going on in here), I found it wonderfully interesting and inviting. Good show.

(about 1 year ago)My wife and I were really excited about this bottle. We had heard a lot of good things The Hermit Crab. The nose was filled with lemon zest and mandarin orange flavors. It even had scents of watermelon as well. The acidity was high enough to make it a great food wine. Again lemon zest conquered the finish. It went very well with baked Tilapia that we had for dinner that night. I look forward to trying the 2006 when it comes out.

(about 1 year ago)Nice wine with hints of white flowers and yellow fruits. No great length. No real complexity. Not bad but it did not impress me at all.
