"The consulting winemaker at Bodegas El Nido is Chris Ringland of Barossa Valley fame. The 2004 Clio is 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 70% Monastrell (from 63-year-old vines) which received malolactic fermentation in new oak followed by 26 months of aging in new French and American barriques. A glass-coating opaque purple, it exhibits a sensational nose of earth, mushroom, leather, blueberry, and blackberry jam. On the palate the wine is supple-textured, complex, with vibrant flavors of spicy blue and black fruits and a big-time WOW factor. This is a totally hedonistic effort with exceptional length and balance. It is remarkably light on its feet for such a powerful wine." - Rated 97, Robert Parker

(about 1 year ago)Absolutely gorgeous! Big, supple, textured, and with an incredible finish. I see why Parker gave this 97 points. It was amazing right out of the bottle, and with about an hour in the decanter it got even better and the fruit lessened while other flavors came out to balance the wine. I love this stuff and am pretty bummed I only had one bottle. Aromas of blackberry, olives, black cherry, plum, tar, cedar, and vanilla. Beautifully big tastes of blackberry, cherry, earth and tannin.

(about 1 year ago)Red Cherries fruit. Oak Also, Caramel and bell peppers. Beautiful in it subtleness. Beautifully balanced wine. Huge alcohol level brings to it the sweetness needed to compliment (tame) the massive tannis. On the tongue the wine goes thru 3 distinct phases. Flavours of Blackberry and black currants, undertones of bell peppers and something like canned green beans.... and best of all smooth and buttery and mixed with butterscotch with a coffee undertone. All I can say is F'ing wow! New world-style. I know… I loved it only because it got a 97 rating from Robert Parker. Not true. I typically never understand or agree with the ratings. I have never tasted a 97, but this sets the new standard for me. I let sit for about 30 mins tasted and was amazed. Let stand for another 30 mins and it is still unfolding more complexity and depth. Let it decant for an hour or 2 if you can. Looking to cellar till 2008 thru 2012
