Di Majo Norante 2005 Sangiovese
(about 1 year ago)This is some of my favorite Sangiovese in terms of food pairing. It is medium-bodied and smooth. Not too spicy or peppery, so it has paired well with everything I have tried so far. Excellent everyday wine, too. Gorgeous berry aroma. Got a little legs to it, as well.

(about 1 year ago)Med to dark purple-red. Nose of candied cherry-raspberry, a bit of bubble gum with some earth and cedar underneath. Taste: much more here that the nose suggested. Lots of cedary earth, with dark cherry firmly in its place. Well balanced between earthy, meaty flavors and dark fruit. Tannins are young and present enough to stand up to a good red sauce, but do not get in the way. Finish is shorter than I would like, but still a bargain.

(about 1 year ago)Bold nose, full flavor, big berries with hints of chocolate and leather

(about 1 year ago)A light-to-medium bodied Sangiovese with pleasant aromas of leather, earth, and savory seaweed mixed with a beguiling floral arrangement of violets and lavender -- all of this hovering over a ground of lush dark cherry. The taste does not disappoint, adding a bit of strawberry to the mixture, and a mouth-watering acidity complimented with light but firm tannins. This is a well-structured wine but I'm not following Robert Parker into the 90s. There isn't enough fruit concentration or character for a 90. But it's very good, and for the price, a great find -- I snagged the last of two bottles. ($10 Austin TX 2007)

(about 1 year ago)Tight nose even after some breathing. A bit of lavender, floral and sweet/dirty aroma. On the palate, sour red fruit, not tooo much going on – quick finish. All said enjoyable, and a good week-night wine.

(about 1 year ago)winemaker's notes: "...a stunning example of Sangiovese that should drink well for 2-3 years. This wine represents incredible value for the money." -Wine Advocate Made from 100% Sangiovese grown in the Sciabolone and Martarosa vineyards and harvested in late October. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for 6 months. This Sangiovese exhibits a fresh bouquet of violets and woodland berries. It is smooth and refreshing on the palate with loads of ripe fruit and represents an excellent value. My thoughts: I think for $13, this is a good, decent (not great by any means) wine for meals everyday. I agree it is very smooth and not harsh. Earthy, a little smelly, but not offensive. Not complex, but not wimpy either. Worth trying. I would buy again.

(about 1 year ago)My first Sangiovese, and a very pleasant introduction to the grape. A pretty tight nose, with pretty focused cherry and a bit of a pleasant earthy smell. The taste was better than the nose said it would be, with nice, sweet dark cherries, some strawberry, and a very enjoyable bit of earth. This wine pairs quite well with food, and for the price, it's absolutely worth checking out.

(about 1 year ago)Nose: mildew, soil, sour cherries, cheese, celery. Taste: not sweet AT ALL, dark fruits, oak. This wine was very dry, but still smooth. The finish was short and the flavors and smells were very "dirty." This wine is probably a very good food wine, but it was not very pleasant, in my opinion, without food. What I liked most about it was that it was strikingly different than most of the wines I drink, so it was a really nice change of pace and a good experience.

(11 months ago)The nose reminds me of cheese pizza! How cool is that, right? The color is sort of non-descript, but there are some thin legs on the glass after swirling or sipping. In the mouth, I get some spicy meat flavors, a little chocolate, and a fig note at the end. The wine is light and drinkable, and I didn't pay too much for it either.
