Vina Requingua Puerto Viejo 2005 Carmenère
(about 1 year ago)Found this at the Bevmo 5cent sale. Black fruit and spice flavors shine through, with hints of cinnamon, cabbage greens, green pepper, and earthiness. The nose presents rich fruit with a touch of tobacco after some time uncorked. Acidity was lacking on first drink, but improved with loss of flavor after a day in the fridge. Tannins are smooth and there's some sweetness. The finish is smooth and moderate in length. Overall, this is a nuanced flavorful wine that would benefit from a more solid acidity.

(about 1 year ago)I picked up a case during the BevMo 5-cent sale, which is how I get a lot of my wine (teacher salaries don't fill wine collections that fast). The first bottle smelled bad, but once decanted it was as tasty as the single bottle I bought a few months back. Its not the greatest Carmenere ever, but I could drink a whole bottle in one sitting while watching TheOffice or an evening football match.
