Wine Spectator 94: A tannic, chewy, concentrated Cornas, distinctively earthy, with lovely floral, blueberry, cassis, smoked bacon and wet earth character. Monolithic now, though the ripe tannins might render it approachable with red meats. Best after 2005. 500 cases made. (PM)

1996 Allemand Cornas Chaillot
(about 1 year ago)Wonderful wine. Decanted for five hours, the color is a strong but mature red. On the piercing nose there is cherry, hyacinth, meat juices and cold stone. The body has a well defined clove flavor, notes of coffee, toffee, and rare venison over a backbone of small cherries and granite. The finish is haunting, with flowers, stone and clove.
