Catena Malbec 2005
(about 1 year ago)I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Black current flavors with a very faint hint of licorice. Medium bodied with a finish that isn't obnoxious. My Dad liked it and he never likes reds!
Catena Malbec 2005
(about 1 year ago)Very nice. Aromas of black currant. Flavors of blackberry, black current, and little dirt. Nice, long finish. Oaky, but not overwhelmingly so.
Catena Malbec 2005
(about 1 year ago)Nose: Big fruit on the nose with plum and currant really coming through. Smell had a bit of a tang which was pleasant. Taste: Again with the fruit. Lots of acid that gave quite a sharp tingle to the tongue, I think this wine will age well. Dark Plum with a little bit of a raisin-y/currant-y midpalate. Decent finish. Overall, this is a good wine, we served it with heavy beef and potatoes and it paired very well with that. Strong enough to stand up to most big meals.

(about 1 year ago)I was immediately struck by weak mouth feel of this wine. I has some nice flavors and a decent nose, but it seems almost watered down. You can find much, much, much better wines at this price point.
Catena Malbec 2005
(about 1 year ago)Lots of dark fruit, chocolaty notes and pepper. Intentse nose but without losing the elegance. Freshness on the palate with gentle tannins and hints of spices, plums and pepepr. Good balance and overall well made.

(about 1 year ago)I really liked this wine. I paid suggested retail which was a tad high in my opinion but some online wine shops offer this wine at a price I would easily pay all day for. NOSE: Black currant, black currant, black currant, black fruits too, little oak; COLOR: Very dark purple; TASTE: Lots of black fruit, zing of acidity and nice tannins; tannins linger, might be better in a few years; nice lingering finish. I'd definitely buy this wine again. Very enjoyable

(11 months ago)Nose: Vanilla, Licorice, Blackberry, Currant...but licorice comes out the most with a wee bit of pepper. Color: Beautiful purple. Taste: Drinking this right now and it is a medium body, which is nice for easy drinking, the tannins are subtle, long lasting finish (>30seconds). Just moved this up to a 91 due to the fact I think this is underrated at 88.9. I would easily buy this again for the $16 I paid for it, as it is hard to find nicely balanced wines such as this.

(7 months ago)An aesthetic pleasure.Beautiful colour. Clean. Fresh. Excellent on its own and able to stand up to a wide variety of foods. Actually "refreshing" along with "hot" stuff, such as shrimp quick-fried in olive oil with salt and cayenne. My new house wine.
