Tucked away in modest downtown Yakima is a gem of a winery called Desert Hills. They specialize in full bodied Columbia Valley wines including Syrah, Merlot, etc. The 2003 Syrah was made with grapes from the Gilbert Vineyards and represents an experimental limited release. This wine was aged in mostly American oak but finished off with French oak to soften the flavor.

Quite simply, this is one of the best Washington Syrah's I have had the pleasure to taste. The flavor is intense, nuanced, and wild. The palate is greated with an acidic bite laced with spice and attitude.
