2003 Norman Vineyards Mephistopheles Zinfandel

Although I was a bit disappointed with this years "Monster", it is still a great example of fruit forward Zins from that region.At a wine tasting at Fleming's Steak House in Montrose that featured the entire line of Norman wines, I was introduced to another BIG winner, their 2003 Mephistopheles! Although still fruit forward this one had many subtleties that make it one of my favorite new Zin releases. At 36 dollars a bottle, it's a little pricey, but worth every penny. Several of the other people at the wine tasting must have felt the same as there were a few others who like me ordered a case. This is definitely one to save for that special occasion, (Diane and I celebrated Saturday with one bottle) or to try on a friend who has a taste for the new "Big" Zins. Like the "monster" this one, too is high in alcohol at 16.2%, but I rate it a 92 pointer!
