2005 Orin Swift "The Prisoner"
(about 1 year ago)Full flavors pushing thru on the palatte. Smooth tannins and a wonderful finish. Great for sipping or with steak or pasta. A great blend!

(about 1 year ago)Tons of fruit. Nice, soft tannin. Some dark chocolate on the finish. I'm anxious to see what develops in this wine over the next few years. In the meantime, let this breath a bit before you drink it and you will enjoy a little more complexity.

(about 1 year ago)THis is not my style of wine, the tannins are too soft, hot alcohol taste, kind of sweet. I like it better the next day. Freshly opened, its really closed, gets better with decanting.

(about 1 year ago)Varietal Blend: 48% Zinfandel, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 10% Petit Sirah, 2% Charbono.
Nose: Blackberry, plum, blueberry, smoke, vanilla oak--but not super-buttery oak. Something on the nose makes me crave Werther's caramel candies. And if I sniff very deeply, I can almost taste blackberry-flavored black tea.
Taste: Plum, sour cherry, blackberry, a little raspberry action, a little blueberry, some black pepper, and just a hint of smoky oak. I also sometimes taste bread. In fact, I'm sipping a glass right now and I'm getting blackberry + plum jam spread on a piece of toast, lightly dusted with black pepper. Mouthfeel is juicy and silky. It's also sweet and kinda jammy, but not enough to turn me off (and this comes from an old world fan). Tannins are very soft. The finish is long, smooth, and full of raspberry, plum, and a little black tea.
Big Fat Caveat: If sweet wines make your palate angry, and you decide to try this wine, then I (like other reviewers) recommend giving it a good dose of air before your first sip. I let the bottle sit open for 2 hours before I poured my first glass, and then I let that glass sit for another hour. It opened up fairly well--and it may have done even better had I decanted it. Sure, it's still sweeter than I really like, but I'll admit that I'm enjoying this wine more than I thought I would. I'm drinking it right now with one of my favorite cheeses, Bianco Sottobosco, and my palate is not displeased.

(about 1 year ago)Jammy, smooth, fruity, spices and a great purple/dark red color in the glass. The nose was a bit tight though. Very easy drinking considering the amount of tannin.

(11 months ago)Rich, sweet, jammy dark fruit. Lingering finish with soft tannins and a touch of allspice at the very end. Delicious.

(9 months ago)Fruitopia, but fortunately not as sweet! Berryfest all the way. Really enjoyable but didn't stand up to the beef I drank it with. Well, I'd never had The Prisoner before, but I'm looking forward to the next encounter.

(4 months ago)Well this wine certainly won't be for everyone. If you are into big, dense coat your teeth fruit bombs out of CA then this is your number. Not something I would look to pair with a meal, unless it was maybe a blueberry pie (delicious paring btw) I rated it high because although it was not my cup of tea, it was still a great tasting wine and very well done. Another stunner by Mr. Swift.
