http://tv.winelibrary.com/2007/05/02/some-wines-i-wanted-to-try-episode-229/ "The 2005 Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Romaine, a blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah, is a fabulous example of how high quality Cotes du Rhones can be. Made under the auspices of the brilliant oenologist Philippe Cambie, this wine comes from the estate`s oldest head-pruned vines of 60 to 90 years old. Dense ruby/purple with terrific black cherry and black currant fruit, full-bodied essence of Provencal fruit, herbs, incense, and spice, this essentially tastes more like a Vacqueyras than a Cotes du Rhone and is beautifully ripe, full-bodied, opulent, and also vibrant, which is in keeping with this top-notch vintage. Drink it over the next decade."

"As far as the nose, as Gary says, there is some serious basil and pepper going on. Is it possible to smell tomatoe especially the stem portion because if so I got some of that. I got some asparagus and maybe balsamic vinegar on the nose as well. I'm drinking it 6/2007 and it's got a seriously palate gripping tanin content. Dry finish for real and somewhat bitter. Interestingly though as you drink it it's got a burst of fruit. My guesses are strawberry, cranberry, and a hint of pomegrante. I think the pomegrante comes from that puckering effect as well."

(about 1 year ago)Bouquet: Pepper, Sour Cherry, Mud. Flavor Profile: Wet Sock mixed with bitter greens and cherries. Not as delicious as I would have hoped. Finished nice and dry. Sung louder with food. Overall a nice entry level Cotes that gives a good start to find a better Cotes. Good, not great. A bit disappointed.

(about 1 year ago)Not a bad wine to enjoy with pork. Did I say good? No. I'm happy paying 10 bones for a wine I think is in the 88 point percentile, but it didn't WOW me. And that's OK. If I was stuck drinking this 10 dollar Rhone red most days, I'd be fine with that. This is good everyday wine that has some structure, and goes well with food. Lots of Raspberry, cherry and leather on this Rhone.
