(9 months ago)Gorgeous silky blend. Smooth tannins. Blackberries, chocolate, tobacco. Hint of cherry. Dirt. Awesome wine.

(8 months ago)This is a serious wine for the price point. It won't break the bank and at the same time I would want to make sure the bottle is finished in one sitting. The color is a dark ruby. I really enjoy the color on Guigal wines. The aroma includes some pepper and black berries with some earthy/leather notes. This is closer to sweet than other wines with this nose. On the palate the wine carries good structure and integration. It is smooth with good mouth feel. The full body exhibits nice dark fruit and some more earth. The latter is clearly earth at this point and not leather. The wine has a reasonable finish that completes the package. This is good wine that was well made. If you haven't tried a wine from this region start here and then move to Cote-Rotie. This is drinking a bit better than the Cote-Rotie I tried last week.

(6 months ago)Definitely decant this baby for an hour or two to really open up the nose. An incredibly good value for a Chateauneuf du pape. The nose consists of wonderful aromas of cherry, allspice, plum, and perhaps a bit of leather. On the palate, this wine was surprisingly brambly to me, with some dirt in there as well. The tannins were nice, and I'd be curious to see how this would taste in a couple of years.
