2006 Palo Alto Reserva
(about 1 year ago)This is the BEST quality to price ratio that I have come across maybe ever. A well done blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and Syrah that displays an appealing ruby red color with moderate thickness. On the nose it is a nice marriage of Carmenere and Cabernet, very pleasant and inviting, with hints of strawberries, raspberries, and dark cassis. This wine is structured book perfect. It enters the palate fruity, and from there, it goes sour sherry on the mid palate, and finishes long with complexity and firm tannins, tobacco, black pepper and spices, and a little note of oak. Goes down very easy and inviting, displaying the body of a solid red with moderate texture. Easy to drink by itself, but I imagine (and I will try) that it must pair very well with steak out of a bar-b-q. Perfect order and harmony in a bottle at a screeming value, I paid only $5.18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's almost unreal! Open and let sit in bottle for 30 minutes prior to serving.

(about 1 year ago)Strong vegetal/green pepper aromas as soon as I pulled the cork. Not much fruit to detect in the nose. Sharp sour fruit flavors immediately on palate (cranberry, sour cherry). Some red fruit hints buried in there. Firm lingering tannins. Somehow still enjoyable. Would like to pair it with pepper-crusted steak.

(about 1 year ago)Beautiful colour. Initial vegetal aromas on the nose but that blew off after about 30 mins revealing some red fruit. Very faint strawberry and cranberry with some sour cherry on the palate. Nicely balanced wine that is a great value. Great sipper.

(11 months ago)Nose of blackcurrant and mint. Smooth, but initially tart, blackberry flavours with a cherry-like aroma. Medium to light bodied, with a smoky aftertaste and short finish. Don't drink too cool, or the vegetal / sour flavours (mentioned by others) come through. Magically disappear at the right temperature...!
