Saintsbury 2004 Carneros Syrah
(about 1 year ago) buddy icon wishiwasinbaja 90.0/100
Nose: Black cherry, licorice, barnyard, lavender, cedar. Body: Good acidity, medium to light body, with a balanced amount of powdery tannin. Flavors: Licorice, cherry, leather, finishing with clean, toasty oak and eucalyptus (!). [After I finished typing my opinion, I noticed that I was left with a distinct "Edible Cheese Rind" sensation that I find really cool.] Opinion: Saintsbury's first attempt at Syrah is definitely not what I was expecting, though I haven't had many from Carneros and I really like it. I really enjoy the earthy-floral aspect on the nose, and the toasty oak-eucalyptus aspect on the finish. This wine drinks like a beefed-up Pinot, and coincidentally it comes from a great Pinot producer in the region. 13% Alc
